The Role
As a Junior Range Engineer, you’ll play a key role in keeping critical IT and communications systems running at one of the UK’s most unique defence environments.
Day-to-day, you’ll be part of a specialist team supporting the IT infrastructure, networks and tactical data systems that enable live trials activity on the range, helping to ensure systems remain available, secure and operational.
Your responsibilities will include:
Conducting planned and reactive maintenance in line with engineering policies
Monitoring and supporting range systems in real time during trials activities
Configuring and managing network infrastructure, including switches and communications systems
Administering and supporting Microsoft server environments and core IT services
Managing and maintaining firewall systems (e.g. Palo Alto, Cisco Firepower)
Installing and cabling IT infrastructure including racks, fixed equipment and networking hardware
Essential experience of the Junior Range Engineer:
Knowledge or experience in IT, networking or communications systems
Understanding of network configuration, system administration or infrastructure support
Practical, hands-on mindset with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently
Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and inquisitive approach
Interest in technology, systems engineering or defence-related environments
Ability to work on-site in a remote location and adapt to a unique working environment
Essential qualifications for the Junior Range Engineer:
Degree, HND or equivalent in IT, Networking, Cyber or related discipline OR relevant practical experience
OR an IT/Networking apprenticeship or industry certification (e.g. CompTIA Network+, CCNA)

This role is 37 hours per week based at our MoD Hebrides site with a minimum average site attendance of five days per week.
