Pros

Having worked in the technology industry for 28 years across global organisations such as IBM, Verizon, Accenture and Microsoft, joining 1st Central has been different from global corporates, but a genuinely enlightening and rewarding experience. What stands out most is the culture. It is forward-looking, with a strong focus on AI, innovation and digital capability. There is clear buy-in across the organisation. People understand the value of new ways of working and are excited to be part of that shift. This is not just leadership messaging, it is reflected in day-to-day behaviours. Culture is everything to me, and this is where 1st Central really stands out. I genuinely enjoy working with people across all levels. I am surrounded by intelligent, kind and supportive colleagues, and I feel comfortable accessing people regardless of role. This makes the environment highly collaborative and engaging. The mindset here makes a real difference. There is a strong learning culture, with people actively wanting to grow, understand and apply new technologies. This creates a high level of engagement and makes roles in this space both impactful and rewarding. It is an exciting time to be at 1st Central, particularly for those interested in AI and digital transformation. The organisation is thinking ahead and building strong foundations to evolve how services are delivered to customers. What i love the most: Strong culture of innovation and AI adoption High levels of engagement and curiosity across the workforce Collaborative, supportive and accessible people at all levels

Cons

Different pace and some structures and ways of working are still evolving.

Pros

1st Central is one of the best companies I’ve worked for. Flexibility isn’t just talked about here, it’s genuinely lived day to day. If you’re looking for a business that trusts you to manage your time, this is it. Like any good flexible environment, it works both ways, and occasionally you need to flex with the needs of the business… but that’s not the norm. I joined because of the culture, and it’s absolutely lived up to expectations. I’ve been treated fairly, given opportunities to grow, and supported when it matters. The people are a real strength. It’s a collaborative, down-to-earth environment where people genuinely support each other and take pride in what they do. Leaders are visible and approachable, and while decisions aren’t always easy (or perfect), there’s a clear intent to do the right thing for colleagues. I’ve seen genuine care shown during periods of change, which matters. It’s also a great place if you like pace and variety. The business is ambitious, with a strong focus on growth, technology, data and AI, which creates opportunities to work on meaningful, high-impact projects. If you’re proactive and willing to get stuck in, there’s plenty of opportunity to develop and progress.

Cons

It is a fast-paced environment, and workloads can feel high at times, particularly during periods of change or when priorities shift. As the business continues to grow, there can occasionally be less clarity than you’d want, which can lead to a more reactive way of working.

Pros

In my experience, 1st Central is an excellent employer with a strong, people-focused culture. One of the things I value most is the emphasis on career development. There are plenty of opportunities to learn, grow and try new things. Since joining as a Senior Executive 18 months ago, I’ve completed industry-recognised leadership training through the Learning & Development team, which helped me progress into a lead position. The business genuinely embraces flexible working. Remote and hybrid options, along with condensed hours, are actively supported, making a real difference to work-life balance and helping to retain talent. There is also a strong social culture, with regular opportunities to connect with colleagues across locations, including Haywards Heath and Manchester. It creates a friendly, inclusive environment and makes it easy to build relationships beyond your immediate team.

Cons

There can sometimes be resistance to change in areas of the business, largely linked to long-established ways of working. This can mean that influencing and embedding new approaches takes more time and persistence. There have been some changes during my time here, including a company-wide restructure. While this naturally created uncertainty, the level of support provided to colleagues throughout reinforced that the business genuinely cares about its people. At times, decision-making at a senior level can feel fast-paced or sudden. However, this is understandable given the competitive and evolving nature of the insurance market, and there is a clear intention to keep the business moving forward.
