Hiring the hands-on: celebrating National Apprenticeship Week in the UK Apprenticeships are a great way to build your skills while earning, and we fill hundreds of these programme roles across our commercial, helicopter and defence and space divisions - from HR and the back offices to the production lines and clean rooms. UK National Apprenticeship Week has been all about recognising the benefits an apprenticeship can offer for those looking to start their career. So what did this look like at Airbus in the UK for 2024? The sectors Airbus leads in - aviation, space, cyber, defence and more - are highly technical fields that rely on the passing down of institutional knowledge through hands-on training with experienced professionals. Apprenticeship programmes are a vital enabler of this process for Airbus and the wider industry. They’re also a great option for people looking for a post-school alternative that allows them to tailor a career path to their strengths. We have carefully designed our apprenticeship programmes to give these future aerospace professionals valuable practical training while they complete their studies. “Students in France are often very shy to speak English. But if you really want to work in an international company, you have to give it a try: nobody is perfect,” says Ophélie, a 24-year-old student of European Communication School in France. Ophélie joined Airbus in September 2018 for an apprenticeship. As a member of the Employment marketing team, her main mission covered the planning and organization of the Paris Air Show, the largest air show and aerospace-industry exhibition event in the world. “Honestly speaking, I was feeling stressed to have such a big project in my hands at first. But my manager was nice to me, explained to me all I needed and supported a lot throughout the project. But I learned is that there is no such thing as 100% perfect event. It’s mainly about making things work. I feel very happy when I know people like our booth and when I can see that my work has a purpose and that some people apply for Airbus thanks to our effort.”
