Building a diverse talent pipeline at all levels of our organisation requires AstraZeneca to be a place where everybody, from all backgrounds, can feel a sense of belonging. By ensuring that AstraZeneca is the best that it can be, means our science will be as innovative as it can be and together, we harness our collective creativity and passions and do great things. Our agenda is flexible and our mission is strong: remove barriers and liberate minds. As a global organisation, we support a number of recognition events and days every year, such as International Women’s Day and Pride. These are culturally important to our team and we take the opportunity to celebrate and educate colleagues on a broad variety of topics that reflect the rich diversity of our workforce.
Mene Pangalos, Executive Vice President of BioPharmaceuticals Research and Development, has been awarded a knighthood by Her Majesty The Queen in the New Year 2020 Honours List in recognition of his services to UK science. Based in Cambridge, Mene has overall responsibility for AstraZeneca’s research and development (R&D) activities in BioPharmaceuticals. Since joining in 2010, he has pioneered programmes to promote novel Open Innovation partnerships with non-governmental and peer organisations, and more than 200 academic institutions to help drive the UK’s position as a world leader in life sciences R&D. Mene has also been the driving force behind an almost five-fold improvement in R&D productivity at AstraZeneca, measured by the number of pipeline molecules advancing from preclinical investigation to completion of Phase III clinical trials.
Huge congratulations to one of our apprentice Shaan Gill who has just received a ‘Highly Commended’ award from the Royal Society of Biology. This recognition is a direct result of her contribution to translational medicine during her time with us and her commitment to a voluntary secondment.
