From 11,000 site managers across the UK, Kirk Raine was chosen as the best of the best - we had a chat to him to find out what it takes to be a two-time NHBC Supreme Winner, and what the award means to him and his team at Doseley Park in Telford. At this year’s awards, our site managers won an incredible 92 Quality Awards, 26 Seals of Excellence and 7 Regional Awards, as well as Kirk’s overall Supreme Winner in the Large Housebuilder category – his second win in six years. This year more than ever, we are extremely proud of all of our site managers, their teams and our partners, who work to build the homes and neighbourhoods our country needs to the highest standards. Karly is one of our incredible Women in Construction. Her career hasn’t always been plain sailing and she’s always had a lot on – from working towards a business degree alongside her work to bringing up a family, multitasking is high up on her skill list. And yes, there have been mistakes on the way, but these are lessons to learnt from, she insists. As one of our Sales and Marketing Directors in North Thames, she feels valued for her results and work ethic but understands that many women have different experiences within the construction industry. Her advice? Be yourself – you can still be feminine and effective in the role; we’re all one team working towards the same goals. #IWD2021

In 2007 Stephen Woodridge took his first step within Barratt Development, joining our graduate Scheme. Now 14 years later, he’s been appointed as the Technical Director of Barratt Developments North East with commendations from across the company. “Since joining Barratt Developments at the start of my career, I’ve been fortunate that progression opportunities have evolved within the company, now leading me to be join the North-East division.” We pride ourselves on offering career support and progression for all of our employees, with Stephen setting a wonderful example. Dennis' story is proof that an apprenticeship can support you in your development no matter what stage you're at in your career. Dennis had been a qualified Carpenter for over 10 years and had spent time in the Army as a medic before applying to our Trainee Assistant Site Management Programme as an existing Barratt employee. Beth from South Wales has always had an interest in the construction industry so joining Barratt as an Apprentice Bricklayer was a no brainer. “Barratt is a big company and has a good name for itself,” she says. Learning in the classroom and applying skills on the job has helped accelerate Beth's knowledge. Coupled with he ambition to become a qualified bricklayer, she's determined to carve out her future career in the construction industry.
