This week, HRH The Princess Royal officially opened the new facilities at Alness Academy in the Highlands. Working collaboratively with The Highland Council and Hub North Scotland, we are proud to have delivered a new building as well as sporting facilities for the school and local community to enjoy. The Alness community has been at the heart of this project and over the last two years we: - Provided job and training opportunities, including over 20 apprenticeships - Worked with local supply chain partners - Carried out 190 pupil visits - Offered 140 work experience days - Fundraised for 3 local charities Find out more about the opening ceremony here:
We are proud to have handed over state-of-the-art new facilities to the Royal Automobile Club in Surrey. Our CEO Andrew Davies met with with representatives of the Club yesterday to celebrate the completion of this project. Set within the Club’s four-acre walled garden is a stunning new building which features a children’s swimming pool and toddler pool as well as changing facilities, a soft play area, junior lounge and café with an outdoor terrace. Happy Pride Month! To show our support and celebrate the LGBT+ community, this month we are changing our logo to include colours of the progress flag. Earlier this year, we updated our Kier LGBT+ flag to include the additional colours black and brown to represent LGBT+ communities of colour, as well as pink, light blue and white which are used on the transgender flag. The redesigned flag is a statement of how our LGBT+ communities continue to become more inclusive. We have recently appointed a new chair to our LGBT+ and Allies Network, Ben Summers. We are delighted to announce we have been awarded a new £75m contract with Hammersmith & Fulham Council to deliver capital works across its c.17,000 housing stock. Through this contract we will be providing job opportunities, apprenticeships and Kickstart placements for local residents. We will also be working with local social enterprise companies and hosting regular community workshops, with a focus on careers, safety and climate change. Mark Whittaker, managing director of Kier Places, states: “We are delighted to have been appointed by Hammersmith & Fulham Council to deliver responsive capital works, it allows us to build on our existing partnership which is focused on delivering a quality service for residents. “Working collaboratively with the council, our skilled and specialist teams will carry out these important works and utilise local supply chain partners as well as provide job and training opportunities to residents of the borough. "I'm planning on doing construction when I get out, so it means a lot to me" These are the words of one of the prisoners from HMP Sudbury who is working with our team as part of their rehabilitation to deliver the new sustainable prison HMP Five Wells. Last week, Prisons' Minister, Alex Chalk MP, visited the site to see the progress being made. Our goal this month was to raise £100,000 for End Youth Homelessness and a range of local health charities across the UK. We are delighted to confirm that by day 19 we smashed this target and we are now on course to raise £125,000! We would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of our colleagues, supply chain partners and clients who have been taking part in the Kier Foundation's Moving through May challenge whereby teams are being sponsored to walk a total of 1,250km - that's c.8,000 steps a day. With leader boards, photos and sponsorship pages on one platform, teams have been able to track their progress and see a running totalaliser. Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week and across Kier we have been encouraging colleagues to talk about their own mental health, we have hosted webinars and provided resources. To finish the week, James Smith, finance director within our Highways business has shared his personal experience with mental health, what has helped him through difficult times and the importance of raising awareness and removing stigma.
This month we are completing our Kier Foundation challenge and Moving Through May. As part of this challenge, each team of six has to walk 1,250km in the month of May. So far, participants have walked their way around the world and have reached 59,000km in total. Participants are raising money for our charity partner, End Youth Homelessness and also health charities of their choice. To donate, visit:
