This month we are kicking off our Kier Foundation Moving Through May challenge. May is National Walking Month and team’s of six across the Group are taking part in the virtual challenge. The goal for each team is to walk 1,250km during the month (which equates to roughly 8000 steps per day, per person). Through the challenge, we’re aiming to raise £100,000; which will be split between our charity partner End Youth Homelessness and health charities chosen by the businesses. It's not too late to get involved and if you work closely with someone from Kier and want to take part in the challenge with us all you need to do is get in touch with them and as long as they are on your team you’ll be able to set up a team on the fundraising page. If you would like to donate or even take part in the challenge with us, please visit the below:

We've held a UK-first trial of a technology to support our strategy in delivering net zero carbon emissions. Through our work with procurement partner, Sunbelt Rentals UK, we have been trialling PUNCH Flybrid flywheel technology on our Shakespeare North site for Knowsley Council, to assess if the innovation could reduce the energy required to power a static crane. The main objectives of the trial were carbon savings and a reduction in pollutants, as well as providing social value benefits to the surrounding community, including reduced air pollution and less traffic movements and congestion. The trial showed that the fuel consumption was reduced by 40%, which also resulted in 40% less carbon being produced.

Yesterday was International Transgender Day of Visibility, which is dedicated to celebrating the achievements of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, and raising awareness of the issues they face. This year, we have refreshed our Kier LGBT+ flag to the Progress Pride Flag. The flag includes black and brown stripes to represent marginalised LGBT+ communities of colour, those living with AIDS, and those no longer living. It also includes the colours pink, light blue and white, which have been added to represent the transgender community and are used on the Transgender Pride Flag. We look forward to sharing pictures of our new flag being flown on our sites across the country.
