Next week we're launching Building for a Sustainable World, our brand-new sustainability framework. It will set a common direction of travel for the whole Group and encompasses the two components of sustainability: Environmental Sustainability and Social Sustainability. At Kier, sustainability is a mindset that seeks to create a resilient, purpose driven business by safeguarding three vital features no business can operate successfully without: • A resilient environment; • A resilient community which includes our workforce, supplier and customer base; and • Resilient profits. We look forward to sharing our framework with you.
We are pleased to have started work on a new mental health ward at Torbay Hospital for Devon Partnership NHS Trust. Doug Lloyd, Operations Director at Kier Regional Building Western & Wales, added: “We are delighted to start work on the new adult inpatient ward for Devon Partnership NHS Trust. This new building follows our work on site in 2016 to successfully install a linear accelerator within the radiotherapy building and we look forward to providing further first-class facilities. “Working collaboratively with the DPT and the project team, we will utilise our skills and expertise in the healthcare sector to deliver this important new service.” Find out more, here:
At the new build prison at Wellingborough, Kier has been working with Northamptonshire Police to provide support to the local community through the MY:BK:YD (My Back Yard) initiative. A response to the emerging issue of gang violence in Northamptonshire, MY:BK:YD is an innovative partnership that provides opportunities to those at risk of getting involved with crime, including offering jobs, training and apprenticeships to disenfranchised and vulnerable young people. To date, the team at the new build prison at Wellingborough has provided: • 6 referrals to Job Centre Plus for roles on the project • 1 unique work placement experience • 7 people given tours of the Wellingborough site • 3 people given construction sector presentations Our Construction Manager, Guy Osborne, received a Social Impact Award for Kier's work with this fantastic initiative. This week we’ll hear from graduates within Kier Construction about their journey on our graduate scheme. Today Cliff Richards, Assistant Site Manager in Western and Wales, details highlights from his time on the graduate programme: “The thing I have enjoyed the most about the graduate programme is the one to one meetings with my Personal Development Expert. They have helped me to build management skills such as public speaking and talking with confidence. This development led to me carrying out the inductions on the Bristol Nightingale hospital project, with up to 58 operatives at a time every morning for three weeks.” Want to apply your academic knowledge to a practical environment, all whilst developing your skills? Turn vision into reality with the Kier Graduate Programme. Applications are live until the 30th September 2020
Next in our series of graduate experiences, we hear from Labuda Haque who worked in our HR Shared Services Centre. Labuda joined our HR graduate programme in September 2017 and has recently been promoted to an Assistant HR Business Partner. Here’s what she had to say about her experience: “The graduate programme was absolutely fantastic. You gain both operational and specialist experience due to the rotations offered on the graduate scheme, the networking that you do helps you in every role that you go into. On the face of it, Kier is just a construction company. However, from my time here, I have learnt that we do so much more beyond that. There are so many different roles available.” We have plenty of exciting opportunities to join our excellent support functions at Kier. Whether you want to start your career in HR, Finance, Marketing or Health, Safety and Environmental – you can, with Kier. Applications close on the 30th September. To all our open roles, visit:

Since 2013 we have been maintaining Ericsson's Radio Access Network (RAN) assets, helping to keep the UK?s 4G and 5G networks live and operational. RAN is the technology used in the UK to allow mobile phones to transmit and receive data and voice services. We carry out a combination of planned and reactive works at sites which carry major UK mobile networks, completing, on average, one task every four minutes. Our highly skilled field teams operate 24/7 across the whole of the UK. To find out more about our work on this framework, click below:
