Last weekend, our #KierRail team completed the fifth in a series of test & commissionings of Auxiliary Transformers, this one located on the Kent Route in the South East. Eight Auxiliary Transformers are being commissioned as part of a project to support the National SCADA Programme to provide low voltage power supplies in geographically and logistically challenging areas. We initially carried out the design, then fabricated the bespoke staging platform before delivering the staging and the Auxiliary Transformer to site. Due to the site location on the coastline and near low lying wetlands, close consultation and engagement with the Environment Agency and other parties was necessary from an early stage to ensure compliance to the key environmental and ecological legislation. These new transformers will benefit the travelling public by providing a modernised, more robust and more reliable control system for the supply of electric to the rail network.

I?d like to take this opportunity to to thank all the local community for the help and overwhelming generosity that you showed during the emergency and for your understanding and continued good will whilst we have carried out the works over the past year. Last week at the new build prison at Wellingborough we received the first of two offsite-manufactured substations, which will provide power to this vast 36-acre site. The packaged substations consist of 2MVA transformers, HV / LV switch panels, 1.5MVA standby generator and fuel storage, integrated controls, power, lighting and fire alarm - all manufactured and tested offsite prior to delivery as part of our Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) approach. The substation is being delivered in five individual sections, the largest weighing 27 tonnes. Each section is being craned into position, fixed and connected together on site. The use of prefabricated MEP at Wellingborough is saving 54,000 operative hours on site, as well as delivering increased flexibility and functionality for the operation of the prison.
