Over the weekend, the rail team at Kier successfully delivered a new modular Negative Short Circuiting Device (NSCD) to Kempton Park Substation in Wessex, as part of the Safer Faster Isolations Programme we are delivering for Network Rail Capital Delivery. On Saturday evening our team took delivery of the new module which was landed on a base we had already built, and soon it will be commissioned at this site. The new NSCD brings with it a number of benefits, including a safer way of working for railway staff as it avoids the need to go on the track to place isolation protection. Theo Turner, Lewis Hipwell, Christian Collins, Ben Hogben, Royce Turner and James Blackwell were integral to the successful delivery of the NSCD.
It's Armed Forces Week and today, we have a blog from Dale Capstick an assistant site manager for Kier Regional Building North & Scotland. Our A13 Road Widening Project team recently completed the first of four bridge installations. Horndon Bridge - which will be used by pedestrians, cyclists and horse-riders - links the village of Horndon on the Hill with the town of Stanford-le-Hope. The bridge is a vital piece of infrastructure, providing the village residents with a safe route over the A13 carriageway and connecting them to local amenities, schools and the nearest railway station, with links both to central London and the Essex coastline. A13 project director, Steve Mack, says: "As with any major construction project, it's important to consider the impact of our work on the areas in which we are operating. "By sequencing these works so that the new Horndon Bridge is fully operational - before demolishing the existing structure - we can ensure that local communities remain connected at all times."
