Recently, it was our annual Pride of Kier Awards and a time to celebrate the outstanding efforts of our people. We hosted an in-person event to announce our winners, for categories including, Project Delivery Excellence, Building for a Sustainable World and Developing Others. Andrew Davies, chief executive of Kier, reflected on the night: "It has been a fantastic evening celebrating our people and the talent, skill and commitment they have continued to show over the past 12 months. “We have some very worthy winners who have truly gone above and beyond and our Pride of Kier Awards is a special event where we recognise the hard work of individuals and teams who day in, day out, work incredibly hard for our clients, each other and the communities we serve."
In a recent survey of 2,000 women across the UK currently experiencing menopause symptoms, respondents said that lack of support is having a direct impact on their decisions to leave a workplace. At Kier, we are dedicated to ensuring our employees feel supported. That's why we have introduced a comprehensive guidance document which guides our employees on: ❤️ What the menopause is and its symptoms ❤️ Starting the conversation with employees and colleagues ❤️ Internal and external resources available ❤️ Information on reasonable adjustments such as temperature control and flexible working We want Kier to be a company where everyone feels comfortable and can achieve their career goals, and providing our managers and their teams with the tools to create that culture is a vital part of becoming the workplace we want to be.

Recently, we celebrated the Kier Foundation turning ten! Colleagues from across the country came together to recognise the fantastic achievements the charity has accomplished over this time. From challenges where colleagues have walked, cycled and even rowed parts of the country (and abroad) to bake sales, and much more, over £2.3.m has been raised for 638 charities across the UK. As part of the celebrations on Thursday, some of our charity champions, trustees and fundraisers presented a cheque of £300,000 to End Youth Homelessness, our charity partner, for all the funds raised to date. We'd like to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has supported the Kier Foundation over the past ten years. See more about the Kier foundation via our LinkedIn post below:

*Warning: some people may find this post distressing* We'd like to thank our incredibly brave colleague Carrie-Ann Dring for sharing her personal experience of pregnancy loss with Building Magazine. The comment piece is available to read now and in it Carrie-Ann details how she has worked with our HR team to form our new pregnancy loss policy and how she hopes it will help others at Kier, and - by sharing her story - with the wider construction industry. Thank you Carrie-Ann - you are creating an important legacy for Dorothy & no doubt helping others too. https://www.building.co.uk/shaping-kiers.../5116464.article
Today, our chief executive Andrew Davies alongside nine other colleagues share why he is proud. Commenting on our I'm Proud campaign, Andrew said: "It has been fantastic to see colleagues across Kier posting about why they are proud to work for Kier, how teamwork and collaboration is at the heart of how we operate. "Our people are our greatest asset and all of the I'm Proud posts show our collective drive, determination and pride to deliver the very best for our clients and have a positive impact on communities across the UK."

Our Infrastructure Regional Civil Engineering team on the Lower Otter Restoration Project recently recorded close-up video of a site visitor who was caught beavering away! The beaver, which lives next to the works area, shares the space with badgers and dormice. To ensure their safety, the beaver and other wildlife are monitored by the project team including ecologists from Exe Valley Ecology, HI-LINE and others with extensive experience to assist us, Clinton Devon Estates and our client the Environment Agency Working in such proximity to beavers enables us to gain unique, first-hand experience of this species, which is of particular significance following the recent DEFRA consultation which included the government’s intention to provide them with legal protection in 2022.
