As part of our commitment to leaving lasting legacies in areas in which we work, we recently transformed the office space of Rock Trust, a founding member of UK charity End Youth Homelessness. Working with our supply chain, we donated our time and materials to renovate the space on Albany Street, Edinburgh. Watch the video below to find out more.
We have successfully recycled 3.5 miles of dual carriageway for a resurfacing scheme on the National Highways Area 9 Strategic Road Network (SRN). Some 17,432 tons of material from layers of old road surface have been reused and are now a part of a much smoother, safer A46 Warwick Bypass. By recycling more than half of the materials used in the original stretch of road, we have reduced the project's carbon footprint by 23%. The remaining materials have also been recycled across the SRN through other projects. Find out how many road miles we saved at: http://kier.uk/2YXoVN8
Conrad Bruce, a foreman working on our A13 Road Widening Project in Thurrock, helped return an elderly man suffering a medical episode to safety after seeing him on his morning site checks. Conrad realised the man had been out all night in the cold and transported him to a safe, warm location before contacting the emergency services. It was later revealed that the gentleman had in fact been reported missing 14 hours previously from Basildon Hospital – more than six miles away. Conrad's help resulted in the man being reunited with his family and Conrad’s actions were recognised by his colleagues who nominated him for an award. A13 project director Rudy Pillay said: "Conrad's rapid response and kind actions ensured that this vulnerable gentleman got the help he needed fast before his condition deteriorated any further, potentially saving the gentleman from becoming seriously ill or worse".
Last week at the prestigious Building Awards, our chief executive Andrew Davies was named CEO of the Year, which recognises excellence amongst the industry's leaders. The award was voted for by the entire judging panel and this is the second time in Andrew's career that he has been given this honour.
