Huge congratulations to Farai Mayne, senior finance manager, and Satinder Virdee, supply chain lead, who recently graduated from Diversity in Retail’s Ethnic Future Leaders Programme. 🎓 The six-month programme aims to improve ethnic diversity in leadership by identifying and investing in high potential individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds and supporting their progression into more senior roles. 💬 Farai said: “It was great to hear from so many inspiring, motivational people who spoke candidly about their own experiences. The programme gave us a safe space to talk and ask questions about issues like race and intersectionality in the workplace. I found the training on accepting and working through imposter syndrome, and the reverse mentoring experience, to be very valuable.” 💬 Satinder added: “The programme highlighted that being my authentic self leads to being my best in any situation. It reminded me not to limit my thinking about my career goals, and to fully embrace the opportunities that networking can create. It left me feeling empowered and I loved listening to the lived experiences of leaders and how they overcame challenges. I got so much support and encouragement from my exec sponsor Mark Atkinson, too, so a big thank you! #LifeAtTheVeryGroup
🖤 Say hello to our Black Friday basecamp team 🖤 We’ve officially entered the busiest time of year at Very. This cross-functional team is made up of experts from planning and events, on-site merchandising, marketing, and more. Together, they monitor our Black Friday performance dashboard, track customer behaviour, follow live order volumes and analyse lots of other data to keep everything running smoothly. They handle a huge volume of asks and make data-driven decisions to ensure we focus impact on priority areas. Their door is always open for teammates who want to ask questions, or grab sweets! #lifeattheverygroup
Our amazing UX (user experience) team is committed to building digital products – like Very’s website, app and other services – that support flexible interaction with different user needs 📱. 🎧 Listen to the latest episode of SheCanCode's 'Spilling the T' podcast for fascinating insight from Sue Irving, Rachel Wright and Lucie Farrington on how we’re using inclusive design principles to enhance our digital customer experience.
👋 Say hello to some of our newest teammates; our graduate cohort for 2023! Over the last three weeks, our newly inducted graduates have been getting a closer look into #LifeAtTheVeryGroup. 🤝 Week one: the new teammates were based at our HQ in Liverpool, learning all about our customers 📦 Week two: they spent time at our highly automated fulfilment centre, Skygate, in the East Midlands, understanding the data behind our model and getting involved in some picking and packing 📞 Week three: our grads returned to HQ to spend time with our customer care team, listening to customer calls and understanding the processes we have in place to help and resolve issues 🤩 After all the excitement, and getting closer to our business and customers, our graduates presented their observations from their induction and created a vlog showcasing their activity. 👏 Great work, and we look forward to watching them continue to grow and thrive with us! 🌱
Here at The Very Group we are undergoing a tech transformation. If you're curious about our migration towards microservices, this blog is for you. We partnered with hackajob who spoke with David, one of our Senior Software Engineers, to uncover the daring motivations behind this move, the benefits it is bringing, and how it will unleash speed and agility. Discover how customer recommendations, powered by machine learning algorithms, are improving user experience and how the DCX Tribe is boosting web accessibility.
Members of our The Very Group team were out in force this weekend to celebrate the amazing Liverpool Pride. It was a fantastic day recognising diversity in our home city, and across the world. 🌟🌈 Our LGBT+ network ambassadors (pictured) have been central to our new inclusion pledge, which we launched as part of Pride month. All of our colleagues are being encouraged to sign the pledge and commit to being curious and learning from others; influencing inclusive behaviours, and being role models and advocating for others. An amazing celebration, and not a bad way to spend a Saturday! #VeryInclusive #LiverpoolPride #ProudAtVery #Pride2023 #InclusionMatters
Today, we’re celebrating LGBT+ Pride at The Very Group. Our LGBT+ network and allies are talking to colleagues in ‘The Street’ in our HQ, which is decked out in Pride banners and our favourite street vendors, and there’s even an (indoor) BBQ to celebrate. 🌟🌈 But we also want this year’s Pride to be the start of lasting change. That’s why we’ve launched our Very Inclusion Pledge. We’re encouraging each one of our people to sign the pledge and actively advocate for inclusion. It says we will: - Awareness: Be curious, listen to everyone, recognise bias, and learn from each other's experiences. - Behaviour: Influence inclusive behaviours and take pride in your actions. - Challenge: Trust yourself to speak up when you witness others not being inclusive. Be a role model and advocate for others. Together, we believe we can further create an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and heard.
Our colleague networks are hitting the road to support diversity and inclusion right across The Very Group. On Tuesday, all six of our colleague-led networks (yes six!) – WAVE - Women at Very; RAVE - Race at Very; LGBT+ Pride; Mind – Neurodiversity at Very; GENS – Generations at Very; and MIND – Mental Health at Very – headed to our Wrexham fulfilment centre. Representatives from each network presented for a quick-fire five minutes, before taking part in a meet-and-greet. They talked to our team at Wrexham about what each of their networks stand for, and how everyone can get involved. Our networks are the driving force behind our five D&I commitments. They keep us honest, fuel ideas, and ensure we’re creating opportunities for all of our colleagues to learn, grow, and be curious about D&I.
Our tech transformation will redefine Very's digital customer experience (DCX), helping us make customer-focused changes at a pace and frequency never seen before in our company. By 2024, we’ll have migrated most of Very’s app and website experience to our new platform, Skyscape. It'll help us continue to provide a seamless, engaging, and ever-improving online experience. But we’re not slowing down in the meantime, and our Digital Customer Experience team (DCX) have made some big improvements to help the families we serve discover and shop the things they need. Want a sneak peak? 🕵️♀️ Here's Alainnah Joyce, our head of product, with a run-down of all the latest developments from our DCX tribe.
