Earlier this month, IBM informed its US employees that it will no longer match employee contributions to 401(k) retirement plans. Shortly after the news broke, Glassdoor saw a ~30 percent spike in total posts and comments from IBM employees on the platform.

With benefits being such a hot topic, and open enrollment currently happening at many companies, we polled professionals to see how happy they are with the benefits package their employers are offering in 2024.

Over 2,700 professionals weighed in and more than half (51 percent) are not satisfied with their 2024 benefits package. About 30 percent of professionals are satisfied and 19 percent are unsure.

The industries with the most pervasive dissatisfaction with their 2024 benefits package are marketing (60 percent), healthcare (54 percent), and insurance (52 percent). The lack of satisfaction is consistent across genders, with 53 percent of women and 50 percent of men saying they are not satisfied with their benefits for 2024. The trend is generationally consistent, though younger professionals (21-25) seem to be the most unsure (26 percent) compared to their older counterparts. The least satisfied professionals are between the ages of 30-40 (~55 percent).

It’s clear that 2024 benefits are not just top of mind for professionals, but the sentiment toward what they’re being offered skews negative. With the jobs market softening – particularly for educated professionals – it’s likely that employees are reacting to a sudden shift in the generosity of workplace benefits after two years when companies seemed to offer a growing basket of perks.

Methodology: This poll ran from November 9, 2023, through November 10, 2023, and was answered by 2,735 U.S. professionals on Glassdoor. Respondents could answer with either “Yes”, “No”, or “Unsure” to the question “Are you satisfied with your company’s 2024 benefits package?”
