When it comes to places with the strongest company cultures, employees consistently put transparent employers who listen to feedback (and follow up) at the top of their lists. But Glassdoor reviews also show that employees care about how executives’ actions align with an organization’s mission, purpose, and vision. They want leaders who inspire confidence — especially during uncertain times. Do they take a stance or stay silent?
For 15 years, Glassdoor experts have analyzed millions of reviews to create our annual Best Places to Work list — the most authentic and trusted workplace awards. We’ve decided to take that up a notch by going even deeper with our research. Using our proprietary algorithm and Review Intelligence™, our sentiment analysis tool, we evaluated leadership teams based on what we know matters most to workers. The result is a whole new way to recognize the most standout, highly rated leadership teams: Glassdoor’s Best-Led Companies List.
Best-Led Companies honors employers with best-in-class leadership based on Glassdoor ratings of CEO approval ratings, senior management ratings, and senior leadership sentiment. Leadership approval ratings were determined based on the quantity, quality, and consistency of reviews during the eligibility period.
Companies with top management
Employees across the board commend leaders for their thoughtfulness and appreciate that they listen to feedback, but there’s no specific mold for what a well-run company looks like. Here are a few highlights of this year’s Best-Led Companies:
- Companies on the 2024 list cover a range of services and are of various sizes. The smallest company, Databricks, has approximately 1,400 employees, while the largest, Schneider Electric, has 150,000.
- Over half of the best-led companies have fewer than 10,000 employees, while only two have more than 100,000.
- Globally, only 5.4% of CEOs are female, but 12% of the companies on our list are run by women.
- Tech is the most-represented industry with 12 companies on the list, followed by finance (6), consulting (6), and retail (6).
- The top metro areas are San Francisco Bay Area, CA (11 companies), New York City, NY (4 companies), and Houston, TX (4 companies).
- Over half of the best-led companies have fewer than 10,000 employees, while only two have more than 100,000.
