Description We were founded in 1905 with the purpose of people joining together to help pay for medical care for when they might need it. This remains our core purpose today. We still exist for the sole benefit of our members and remain a not-for-profit society. We're the affordable alternative to health insurance.

The original mission was to help provide treatment for postal workers suffering from Tuberculosis (TB). Today, our mission is to help regular hard-working people avoid the worry and complications that waiting on the NHS can bring.

Our only passion is to improve the quality of our members’ lives, as it always has been. Today we have over 850,000 members, tomorrow we aim for many more. Our vision is to be the UK’s leading healthcare community, making life better for all our members and wider society by taking the strain off the NHS.

Our Company

Benenden Health was founded in 1905 to provide treatment for postal workers suffering from Tuberculosis. Over the past 120 years, we've supported our members through many crises, and we’re helping to support people now. Member contributions have always been used to support the health and wellbeing of our members. That hasn’t and won’t change now, or in the future.

As a not-for-profit mutual society, we’re proud to be part of a community that cares deeply for people’s health and strives to support our members every day. We all deserve access to great quality, affordable healthcare. After all, our health and wellbeing is never simple, but caring for it should be.

On Monday 10 July, Benenden Health attended the York Cares Golden Moments Awards, which is there to recognise all the fantastic work York Cares do in our local community, and to thank and award those who have made an impact through employee volunteering throughout the year. We are very delighted to say that in total we won five Golden Moments awards, which is such a brilliant achievement and really demonstrates the give back culture that we have at Benenden Health, and the colleagues who contribute to making this happen. None of these awards would have been possible without the contributions from our colleagues volunteering, getting out and about, giving back to the community - so thank you to everyone who has made a volunteering contribution over the past year, it really does make a difference....Show more
