Pros

1. Paid opportunity to form your closest friendships! (Google: “trauma bonding”) 2. The unadulterated joy you will feel in your next role when you’re no longer micro managed to within an inch of your life. It’s like all your birthdays, and Christmases all at once.

Cons

1. A blackhole of neoliberalism. Expect to hear such nauseating phrases as “work hard, play hard”, “team work makes the dream work”, “good hustle”, etc. etc. It will make you want to “live, laugh, lobotomy”. 2. Weaponisation of feedback. It will not be constructive, but a rod to hit you with (could be a pro if that’s your thing, no judgement) 3. They got rid of the snacks anyway. Don’t do it baby; I know you’re scared because your friend got that grad scheme at Deloitte but you deserve better x

We make it clear that our Associates take on frontline responsibility that requires hard work, grit, and perseverance day by day. Our success is underpinned by the caliber of our colleagues, the quality of their work, and their commitment to delivering superior client service. For five consecutive years, our team members have nominated us as a Great Place to Work, recognizing our commitment to fostering individual career growth and creating a platform that allows our colleagues to achieve something bigger than themselves. To that end, we are proud to see AlphaSights alumni go on and succeed across multiple fields, including finance (Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, etc.), technology (Amazon, Google, Meta, Salesforce, etc.) and business school (Harvard, Insead, LBS, Stanford, Wharton, etc.). - The AlphaSights Team

Pros

The people are wonderful, but get less wonderful as you go up the promotional hierarchy, and you make some good friends bonding over the unpleasantries of the job.

Cons

There is so much that is not good about this company, and much of it I didn’t fully internalize until being fully employed somewhere else. The most fundamental issue, though, is that the leadership is set in its absurd method and despite constantly boasting a feedback culture, has never once taken on feedback from its employees. The turnover rate is wild, the recruiting proposition is false, and the lack of training of the managers, which has been brought up on this chain 81738492 times, is perpetuated despite the repeated feedback that it is a problem. I was lucky(ish) in my segment and in my team, but I saw colleagues being treated horribly, being belittled and stretched thin and then thrown out without a second thought. Most managers and up are on some kind of Zimbardo prison experiment-esque power trip. And you really just sit there and watch as bright, capable recent-grads (and sometimes experienced professionals who are pulled into the associate position by the visa sponsorship) are driven to half-insanity. I don’t know of a single person who has left and isn’t far better off now. And I know a lot of people who have left.

Pros

1. Friendly colleagues & communal atmosphere 2. Fun parties, sport teams, trips, interesting speakers 3. Opportunities and support to drive forward initiatives Possibly a good place to start for those with little experience/specific skills/qualifications

Cons

1. Falsely marketed to new recruits The reality of the day-to-day role is hidden in well-crafted marketing and the use of attractive buzzwords. You have very little exposure to the industries and projects that your client is working on, and the learning curve is limited at best. This job is not intellectually challenging, and is far removed from the content of projects. It is extremely repetitive and monotonous, and the role is purely facilitative and administrative. At best, it is a sales role, but even that is an overstatement. Best comparison is that of a call centre. What the role involves: receiving a client brief, looking for certain words (e.g. 'sales' @ 'company x'), putting those words into LinkedIn, cold calling people and reciting a pre-determined script, scheduling phone calls for clients. The problem is not with what the role involves in itself; AlphaSights is very effective, valued by clients, and a clear market leader in providing the service that it does provide. The problem is with the way that this is conveyed to prospective candidates inn an effort to recruit 'top talent'. There is no development of hard skills, apart from confidence to speak on the phone. Salary is completely misstated on marketing materials - compensation is not as high as it is presented to be, and is dependent on 'performance' (measured by a single, unrepresentative metric) 2. Senior management lacks integrity and foresight. Complete and total lack of professionalism in the way that this firm is run and employees are treated - especially if/when they choose to leave the firm. Senior management must look to get to grips with the root cause of employee dissatisfaction rather than looking for scapegoats. 3. Skewed reward and promotion system 4. Overstated relationship with clients - not a knowledge partner but distant service provider 5. Limited exit options given the lack of skills development (aside from management skills, which you probably do get earlier than you would elsewhere)

We connect our clients with experts who have the knowledge our clients seek. The Associate role is thus about (i) understanding what knowledge our clients seek, (ii) breaking down clients' knowledge requests, (iii) searching for, contacting and qualifying experts who possess the right knowledge, and (iv) connecting our clients to experts through tailored solutions that save our clients time and help them get their job done most effectively Sincerely, Dominique, SVP
