Pros

Can't think of any positives.

Cons

Still ACE mentality at heart of the organization following the acquisition of Chubb. Both management and senior management pre-occupied managing the message back up the line to their superiors and keeping their jobs. Incessant focus on the here and now with no strategic direction. Brand values of craftsmanship undermined by caustic work environment where people fear for their jobs as a result of the company's short-term sales focus. This is fuelled by constant re-shuffles and re-organisation of business units, little or no recognition of internal talent with mainly external hires; and colleagues constantly leaving to pursue 'new opportunities outside the organisation'. Overall, an unsettling environment to work in. The company could get so much more from its people if it treated them better and could provide true leadership and direction - not just from the very top down.

Pros

The brand is still respected, the products are best in class, it looks good on a cv to have worked there

Cons

Staff turnover since the merger has increased to an unmanageable extent. So much so the company are now giving ‘ golden handshakes’ to new employees, lump sum figures that you are required to pay back if you leave within 12 months. The wage structure has no structure at all, with long serving experienced staff being underpaid due to management discretion. This also applies to the bonus structure, which can be granted or revoked at individual managers choosing, not based on achieved targets with no way of appealing decisions. A noticeable theme of similar surnames appears throughout the company, and you can be sure that the junior members of staff with the matching surnames to the senior staff, sons, nephews or even god children seem to advance through the ranks with exceptional pace. On a day by day role, the workload has increased due to sign off changes and unnecessary underwriting requirements. Coupled with the authority points for sign off taking weeks to respond to urgent requests. The above being said, I did enjoy my time at Chubb, I met some amazing people and learned things that have helped me advance within the insurance world. For anyone who is thinking about a role within the business, I would ask them to question the department they are applying to work within staff turnover. In the past 12 months 5 from a team of 9 had decided to leave, all siting pay, working conditions and a lack of belief that the company would improve. All employees who handed in their notices on this team were offered salary increases to stay, which considering the salary review had happened in the previous month and most had no pay increases it all adds up to a disappointing end to a good company.

Pros

Dress down fridays. Commaradary and support with close colleagues. Free drinks. Good BUPA healthcare. Although if you offered to work all hours god sends management wouldnt stop you in the interests of your work life balance so you are free to go bang on 5pm.

Cons

The p&p reviews (box ticking exercise) Bonuses for the staff you never see. Lack of headcount to properly resource and manage a fair and reasonable workload. Totally inadequate (brand new but inefficient) systems that regularly freeze, run at snails pace or completely go down. Being told the company is doing great 11 months of every year but in the 12th month at pay review time theres never any money "in the pot" yet we hear of people offered more only once theyve threatened to leave? As above no expectation to work unpaid hours but you wouldnt be stopped doing them. No point anyway because it wont give you a 1 or a 2 in your performance review anyway. The company systems and processes pun you back from really going above and beyond your regular role simply because youre too tied up trying to simply achieve the work you already have in your own teams bubble!
