Pros

Very good and attractive salary and benefits.

Cons

Be aware of constant limited restructuring causes continuous fears of being laid off. Every single one of the five years I've been at Cisco there has been a "silent" 7 to 10 % workforce reduction. There is a culture of hiring people "suck out" that they know and then brutally lay them off. I've seen this happening so many times here at Cisco that I come to the conclusion there is a pattern behind that.. Middle management is real hell and they are afraid of their own shadows. Impossible to be promoted, unless you drop everything your doing and appease your director by chasing the shiny ball. You don't get rewarded for excelling at your daily job, its more important to kiss senior managements rear end and get your "name known". It is all about marketing yourself here. It's not what you do for or with customers all the work need to be done inside. Very political organization.

Pros

- you can work from home. - relaxed dress code - pay check isn't going to bounce

Cons

- very high workload, can get ridiculous when covering for absent colleagues. - no training. - no annual pay rises, irrespective of performance. So each year your efforts are rewarded with an effective pay cut as inflation eats into your competitive starting salary of 5 years before! - limited/no career progression. - Benefits steadily cut - the joke in the offices is that soon we will have to pay for our own toilet paper. - employees now have to pay for own broadband and mobile phones - which the company still expects you to use for cisco business - figure that one out. - expected to be on call virtually 24 hours a day. - A performance review process which is laughable - break your back or sit back - no difference.

Pros

Cisco is a great name to have on your CV. Represents a good opportunity to meet lots of big customers and do some big deals.

Cons

This is one arrogant company. The general view is that we should feel very lucky to be here, and that staff are expendable. There is no real opportunity to progress, you can only get on by sucking up to the right people. Praise for doing a good job does not exist. The company is making the job as hard as it can in a tough environment, in the hope that people walk, as they have over recruited already and don't want to make people redundant. UK management team are not industry leaders, just yes men to the US and only understand management metrics for monitoring staff. The people who have been doing a good job successfully for years get over looked and taken for granted, while the self promoting "connected" brown nosers get promoted. Was once good, now like every other big slow arrogant beast.
