Pros
Opportunity to work with some very smart people. Exposure to a wide variety of engineering projects. Long established company with good reputation in the marketplace. Opportunities to work abroad and in different offices. Moderate work pressure and sociable hours.
Cons
Work can become repetitive and boring in certain service lines. Overly bureaucratic. Your experience at DNVGL is highly dependent on your direct line manager. Uncompetitive rates for services given current market conditions in oil and gas making it very challenging to retain and win new work. For new people to the company there is not enough incentive to remain loyal (no bonus structure, little room for promotion, mediocre pension compared to those on final salary). Unfair pay - contractors on much higher pay compared to employees fulfilling similar roles. Constant reorganisation confuses employees and severs external business relationships. Have lost some very good employees over the years which has cost the company, especially during the GL merger.
