Pros
Though challenging, my experience at HCC gave me a lot of valuable, transferrable skills I'll take with me as I progress through my professional life. The vast majority of colleagues I worked and interacted with were friendly, approachable, and always willing to help. There was generally a real sense of togetherness and unity among colleagues at my pay grade, which helped in my day to day responsibilities. The opportunity to see the provision of public services from a first hand perspective was valuable and eye opening.
Cons
Onboarding process generally insufficient. Continued professional development generally insufficient and not centred on current business needs. Confusing management structure. Expectations of role not entirely clear, continually changing, and not grounded in actual employee capacity. Vertical management culture generally unfit for purpose (in contrast to horizontal management structure which was better). Employee expectations not commensurate to salary, although this becomes more balanced as you advance to the top pay grades.
