Pros

The people. They have found a truly supportive group of people all going through the same stresses of work, and try to provide the support as the company will not.

Cons

This is a profit driven company run by partners who want the company to maintain "the small company" feel and expect you to work as such despite the exploding workload, without acknowledging that it is breaking people. They bid for jobs, undercutting others without considering the amount of time and logistics needed by the more junior staff. This leads to massive levels of stress, an inability to discuss the problems with senior staff; and low morale. The support system is not there. People move to Winchester for the job and soon find that there is no external social life. Everything becomes about the office and when work is hard, then life is hard. Which is very often and soul destroying. The social side of LCP has died with the fast growth, and everyone is just trying to keep their heads above water that there is no time to look after the people around you. This also applies to the people whose job it is to look after you! We are trapped by buying a home in an expensive area, and with no real competing companies in the vicinity, it does feel like we are stuck. The support staff are stretched so thin and the pay disparity is disgusting. They are being forced to work similar hours to investment and actuarial but for a fraction of the pay. Any salary reviews are hard fought and often lost and there is no clear career progression. They are not respected in the company and there is a undercurrent of snobbery and superiority from the fee earners. The diversity and inclusion network are purely for appearances. Their power is limited to sending out internal memos and organising events that people are too busy to attend. Little if anything actually makes it into policy. Mental health first aiders are dangerously unqualified, and are assigned to people who have no experience or empathy. If they cared about diversity it would be reflected in the people they recruit and their HR policies. There has been a run of people leaving for a complete change of career or without even having a job to go to, just because of how far they have been pushed. Fellow consultants have moved laterally to get away from the overwhelming stress of the departments. Anyone who isn't heading purely to partner (soft skills and looking after your teams be damned) is not appreciated or catered for. There is a huge bullying culture but because of the nature of appraisals it is inadvisable to speak. Women who speak out are reduced to "gobby", "outspoken", "emotional" and their points dismissed and them told to reign it in. If you are someone who wants to dedicate your whole life to the job, are fortunate enough to be in a fee earning position have no mental or family issues and already have a social life or partner/family in the area then LCP is the place for you. If not, don't bother.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. It was concerning to read some of your comments and we would like to address some of the points you raised. We would also like to encourage you to speak with someone in the business to discuss your thoughts and concerns in more detail. Over the last few years we have continued to grow steadily year on year and as we have grown, conscious efforts have been made to manage resources required, in line with the growth of the work. As a consulting firm we naturally have peaks and troughs in our workflow throughout the year, but we keep track of workloads and hours, so we can see where departments are stretched, where additional recruitment is needed and where resource from other teams could be deployed to ease short-term stresses and workloads. We understand that not everything will go smoothly but we are working hard to ensure that our people are kept at the centre of what we do, as it is our people who shape LCP and the success we are experiencing. We pride ourselves on being a large employer in the local Winchester area and whilst we recognise that Winchester does not provide the same fast paced living environment as London, lots of our team choose our Winchester location for the many other benefits that living outside of the City brings, with easy access to beaches and the countryside, but still a short journey away from London. We do have a very active Social Committee who organise a variety of events for the whole business (and their families) including theatre trips, quizzes and cooking lessons. We regularly conduct anonymous engagement surveys to gain an understanding of how our people are feeling and to provide a space where feedback and issues can be shared. We are very proud that 91% of our people would recommend working at LCP to friends and family and so your comments around mental health and a lack of support available internally are very disappointing to hear. We are extremely concerned that you feel a bullying culture exists in our Winchester office, which is truly out of line of our business ethos. We take comments like this very seriously and we strive to ensure feedback and support structures are in place for our people, regardless of what the issue is. Our HR team are there to offer discrete or confidential support for our people at any time. We also offer an EAP service for our people, where you can gain external third-party support. It is upsetting that you feel you cannot address these issues internally, although we would strongly encourage you to talk to someone in the business so that they can be looked into and addressed as required. D&I is very important to us at LCP - it is the central piece of our people principles, very much shaping all our policies. This includes recruitment and we have an active agenda to recruit from as wide a pool of talent as possible, as we believe this diversity and mix of experience will only make us stronger and more successful – both individually and collectively. Our Diversity and Inclusion Networks are led by individuals within the business and very much support our approach to Diversity and Inclusion, making sure we move forward and that we challenge ourselves as an organisation. Like a lot of organisations, we are on a journey and conscious that there is much more to be done but we are committed to continuing to develop an inclusive and ultimately more diverse organisation which values all its employees regardless as to what function they perform.

Pros

- excellent support for qualifications - flexible working hours

Cons

- too much focus on hours worked without as much consideration of value add - the above contradicts a fee-conscientious atmosphere where juniors are sometimes made to feel they should 'smooth' chargeable hours - fair amount of internal politics and experience can be really variable depending on which teams you work for - pay raise structure could be more transparent
