Pros

The new CEO is genuinely kind, approachable, and deeply committed to translating science into meaningful clinical impact for families and patients with rare diseases. Clear organisational purpose and focus on advancing research into real-world applications. Friendly colleagues in many teams and a generally supportive working environment. The CEO takes time to listen, holding drop-in sessions across 3 sites to understand staff needs.

Cons

A legacy culture where some long-standing employees resist change and make it harder for new staff to progress. Career progression opportunities are limited and often based on historic structures rather than performance or potential. Some roles are filled internally without being advertised, leading to a lack of transparency. In certain departments, there are few or no clear pathways for advancement but this is a structural rather than leadership issue. The organisation remains a bit hierarchical, though Sam is actively working to make it more open and collaborative.

Pros

Good pay and benefits but it comes at the risk of redundancy at any point depending on what the c-suite suddenly decide to focus on.

Cons

Incompetent leadership, especially the CEO, and toxic culture at the top. Workplace bullying and contracts/jobs being awarded based on who is friends with who.

Pros

Great people and benefit package.

Cons

The C-suite blames others for its shortcomings and prioritises visibility at high-profile events over operational integrity. Priorities shift abruptly, often depending on the CEO’s mood.
