Working with young people to try make a positive impact

Unsupportive senior leadership who make decisions behind the backs of the registered homes managers and then try to push blame on others rather than taking accountability for organisational issues that don't allow for managers to be able to meet the required standards. Concerns raised not being taken seriously or investigated thoroughly and other people being scapegoated so that SLT can save their own backsides which has created a huge blame culture. Inconsistency with investigation and disciplinary actions leads to staff feeling there is favouritism of certain staff members. Higher turnover of staff than most other companies because staffing decisions are not made with consideration for the high level of need of the young people they will be supporting and training is not as comprehensive as it should be to equip staff with the required skills, leading to burnout. Decisions made about staffing levels can make it difficult to keep staff and young people safe. When you decide to leave - particularly if in management, you are ostracised and life is made difficult for you. This has happened a lot. Doesn't matter what extra hours you do as a manager or how much you try to support your teams - there is little to no appreciation from the SLT of this.

Working at Madiba is truly a rewarding place to work as children are always at the heart of everything we do. It feels great to be a part of a team where everyone is so dedicated and passionate about making a difference in the young people's lives. The workplace culture is incredibly supportive and the leadership team genuinely values it's employees. There is always a lot of encouragement to grow both professionally and personally. A very meaningful place to work. Very happy to be working here.
