Typical difficulties working in the public sector in a maligned industry with cutbacks - Human Resources Assistant Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Employee Review

Pros

The environment and the network of people are inherently decent working in the HR department. A good varied workforce with talented people. I enjoyed forming relationships with the working Nursing staff who make great efforts to perform their duties under difficult restraints. Whilst the workload is demanding, the atmosphere is fairly relaxed and jovial.

Cons

While there are decent people, the nature of the department is incredibly cliquey and it seems to be a bit of a "boys' club" in who advances. Decent people who are skilled have left or have been pushed to the side because their face did not fit, certainly not a very welcoming feel. Cuts make this department a very depressing environment and the workload for what we deal with is staggering, an extra body would make this much more relieved.

Pros

My line manager and the manager are for the most part decent folk

Cons

Alot of people are wasting my talent , knowledge , experience at keeping me band 2 despite even telling me I am overqualified for a band 3. Some interviewers have made it difficult to get the reasonable adjustments all they need to do is send the interview questions 24 hours before the interview. Some of tried 2 or 3 hours before then rearranged on the same day interview. They care more about looking busy then actually being busy. Have had over a year to replace consultant but made no action to replace them, this puts the patients safety at risk (which considering this is what the trust claims to value seems laudable and contradictory).
