Culture of micromanagement undermines potential for growth - Anonymous employee The Pensions Regulator Employee Review

Pros

TPR has difficulty recruiting so when backfilling a post it will often be upgraded. Successful applicants are also likely to successfully negotiate not starting at the bottom of the grade.

Cons

After two disastrous annual staff surveys (2024 and 25) you'd think the DWP would be asking questions. But no, a culture of undermining and micromanaging staff, rather than effective leadership, seems almost to be encouraged, especially when you look at the rise of certain individuals. Old style regulation has taken a backseat to big picture "what do we want to be" navel gazing, requiring the hiring of lots of highly paid new roles (some permanent, others contract).

Pros

Used to be a great employer with prospects

Cons

Introductions of banded salary made it impossible for some people to move up without taking a huge financial loss

Pros

Some fabulous people there who really care about their function and work

Cons

So many. 1. A COO office that condones afternoons spent in the pub where lies, stories and misinformation about colleagues are widely circulated to the gullable and select few. 2. Those who work concientiously are abused for highlighting the incompetence of others. 3. Executive Management fail to action grievances / complaints about members of staff (who often have a record of complaints about them) and acknowledge the toxic work environment and protect those who abuse the system 4. Favouritism - if your face fits, you will get on (regardless of your abilities - the more incompetent you are the better in that respect). 5. Executive Management have no idea on how to act or respect others - there is constant in-fighting and school ground behaviour.
