Some good people, but ruined by the bad ones and management

Pros

- A seemingly friendly atmosphere (that is mostly fake) - Working on some good games with good variety in style and content, stops you getting bored - The good people I met there were very good

Cons

- The bad people I met there were very bad and ruined the job entirely for me. Nothing but favoritism and lack of transparency from anyone above you, and I got the vibe that was also the case for the manager too, absolutely no trickle down of information, everything is treated like we could lose WW3 if we don't keep things from you. You make video games, it aint that deep. - Do not reward hard work, only reward people 'playing the game' - it's almost encouraged to go behind your colleagues backs to get the good projects so you can look good to management to get promotions, there is no other way to get promoted, or at least if there was no one I know ever achieved it via only hard work, your manager has to love you too, and this is very dependent and down to the person's own personal feelings about you absolutely removed from the work you do, and there is no recourse when you know you are being treated unfairly, and the risk of losing your job or being kept on the low rungs forever increases if you do, there is no real accountability for managers. - The pay is on the extreme low end of the games industry, they claim to be AAA but do not pay AAA salaries, and once you're there it is hard to keep getting increases and promotions, especially if you don't have a good personal relationship with your manager. - Company LOVES to keep secrets, it's very strange and I've never experienced a culture like it, but it's basically only people in the know can know anything (which I genuinely believe is like the board members and no one else), everyone else must be kept in the dark at all times until a vague company livestream where you'll get no say and be blindsided by news. - Extremely corporate and fake environment for a games company, feels stiff and stagnant, tons of red tape, no stepping outside of your lane at all, constantly feel like making any suggestions at all is stepping on someone in management's toes, in fact doing anything other than what you're told often feels like stepping on someone's toes. An atmosphere which discourages creativity, and actively tells you if you're creative that you aren't worth anything to them, you're replaceable and as someone else said, the people giving you briefs tend to feel like they could do better than you did if they just had the time to do it, extremely accurate to my experience as well. - Big issue with turnover rates because of all the problems with managers, Lots of micromanaging due to pressure from above. I know 3 separate people on 3 separate teams who have all had the same complaints about their manager and want to look for another job because of this. It's a lottery if you get on well with your manager and their methods you're great, as long as you keep that up (and things don't completely change, which is what happened to me) If you don't you're going to be looking for a new job ASAP, as there is nothing you can do if you want to do things differently or even complain. Every complaint I ever made was met with disinterest and the line 'Lets just wait and see how it goes' and then by the time we'd 'seen how it went' the process was now solidified and I was being a trouble maker for suggesting we change it. - It's a real shame what management has done to this company, the dev teams are great, so many people I met were passionate and friendly and completely ruined by the corporate cutthroat culture they have at Frontier. It was a massive disappointment to me, as I really enjoyed some of the work I got to do there and I learnt a lot from some very talented colleagues. Shame about all the rest.

Patriarchal Nightmare

Pros

Remote working was allowed, aside from that, I can't think of a single pro.

Cons

Micro managed, red tape, opinions more important than statistical data, managers without any discipline experience making decisions that negatively impact results, and all-in-all just an old man's club. Females get paid REMARKABLY less than less experienced male counterparts, and I only ever witnessed Men receiving promotions, regardless of tangible results and output.
