Soul Destroying Entity

Pros

- Office nicely presented and is positioned in a great location - Most of the general staff are lovely welcoming and friendly - Jollies are usually better than your usual company outings - HR team are mostly great people that genuinely care - Redundancies avoided at all costs most of the time through reallocation

Cons

- Legacy managers are poison, manipulative, lazy and hypocritical - New CEO was once seen as a hero but in new role has disappointed beyond belief - Get little credit or recognition for original ideas that succeed, spotlight stolen - Newest executives and VPs although seasoned have severely broken the once great identify and culture Jagex once had - Although a typical saying, it’s very much who you know not what you know or how hard you work - Staff feedback process via Glint surveys pointless process and yields little impact/results - Staff concerns often ignored or overlooked despite countless examples of being right after the fact - If you’re Manager that has your teams best interests at heart, prepare to be managed out - Beyond the typical bulk training initiatives, training at Jagex is an absolute joke - Jagex moving aggressively toward an outsourced model. Starting to severely devalue the benefit of permanent onsite staff - Beyond RuneScape and OldSchool, has failed to deliver another successful game, despite millions of pounds and many attempts - If you plan to live in Cambridge don’t expect your salary to be at a level required to live there. Salary only worthwhile if you commute - If you commute, prepare to spend hours in traffic sometimes. A14 overhaul isn’t due to complete until 2021 - I.T team are useless, argumentative and take a super long time to complete the simplest of urgent requests. Tons of red tape - Community is toxic and rarely evolving. Most of the paying customers are returning players, new player acquisition shamefully low - Jagex’s desperation to be noticed and seen in the industry is cringe, spend less money sponsoring events that yield pointless results

Turning the good into bad

Pros

- Office is at a great location with lakes, nature and is great in the summer - Christmas party each year tends to be a brilliant night with good food and booze - Some outstandingly skilled individuals that share their knowledge and inspire others - Outstanding game knowledge within the RuneScape team, there's a real passion to develop - Bonus payments at the end of the year if targets are met are brilliant if you perform well - A full day to work on personal projects / your own games every two weeks, good for creatives - Has an on-site canteen that's a little pricy, but food is okay and it's convenient

Cons

- CEO sucking creativity and passion away from people through implementing stupid strategies - CEO is openly offensive to staff on company live streams and doesn't treat women like people - Saving money is the top priority, to the point where you can't even get sign off for a team meal - Performance reviews for managers non-existent with no direction or role progression - Staff surveys get sent out and nothing happens as a result of feedback given - Culture and atmosphere losing the 'Games Studio' vibe more every day - Excellent role models being turned into boring, demotivated zombies - Organisation structure is getting unnecessarily complicated

Pros

Working from home Nice employees Fun products

Cons

Gaslighting, bullying and discrimination as cultural norm Progression within company is clique-organised, not performance based Complete lack of adherance to own cultural values when applying high level company decisions Meetings on meetings, with no net outcome High turnover of management resulting in lack of consistent direction Blame culture contributing to above high turnover Company will ease you into the culture over first 6 months, and ask you to provide a glassdoor review to offset the longer term employee reviews Mid-level managers lack basic management training Company is management heavy
