Pros

Most people of similar age, 24-29 so culture is good.

Cons

Where to start: This applies to the AI department of management consultancy in KPMG Belfast Management is a joke. Top management of the AI department does not appear to care about the employees and only seeks to further their own career. In the last 12 months roughly 26 people of a team of 70 odd people have left, mainly experienced consultants, senior consultants and management. These people are replaced with very low skilled graduates. This not fault of the graduates themselves but as the department is so bottom heavy there is very little resources to get trained and skill up. Management openly blames people for leaving for all the wrong reasons but people leave because the wage is poor, the projects are poor and there is very limited chance to upskill. A number of people on the team have had issues with project managers, when these are raised to upper management zero is done until it begins to effect upper management directly. This widely believed in the office because upper management is only concerned about their own position. Finally the department is effectively a resource center for UK projects and only add value to the company as a cheap resource as the wage is so poor especially when compared to our counter parts in the UK and Dublin. We understand because Belfast is a cheaper city to live in but you still have to live and survive.

Pros

Restaurants are great, HQ is overall a cool place to work. Canary Wharf is a lovely place so it's not too bad from that perspective.

Cons

I worked in a small service line dedicated to digital transformation within the FS sector. The leadership team is terrible. Lots of backstabbing going around and very incompetent people when it comes to winning any actual new business. Their proposals seem like something out of a 1990's bad sales playbook, making it nearly impossible to win RFPs. I wish I never moved from industry to this particular service line, as the onboarding was lousy, particularly given the complete lack of support given to those who have worked in consulting before. Based on my experience, I do not recommend AT ALL for anyone to join them.

Pros

One of the partners in the business is one of the most respected consultants in the world (and a great guy too!). Good benefits and social life. Don't have to work if you don't want to (like if you're preparing for interviews, or if you've had a heavy night).

Cons

The head of my department reminded me of David Brent. Except after he'd had a few drinks. Then he was more like Andy Gray. He was a HR disaster waiting to happen. He thought he was adored, but I rarely heard anyone say anything good about him. He talked a great game but he had no idea what he was doing, either as a manager or as an investment professional. KPMG is purely sales focused. Partners are rewarded for increasing revenue (not profits or quality of work) and are not remotely concerned with anything else. This flows through the company. Everyone is focused on doing what they need to do in order to get promoted. Clients are merely a means to this end. Promotions are done on a "first-come-first-served" basis. There is no distinction for ability or performance. You take your ticket and wait to be called. Predictably, the business has lost a lot of talent as individuals have passed their exams and moved on. KPMG is an audit firm and you will be rewarded in line with the performance of the audit business, irrespective of how your business has done. Excellence does not exist in KPMG (one or two individuals excepted).
