Pros

Working Hours and Christmas Holiday

Cons

It’s no secret that the Labour Party is a complete and utter disgrace and my experience of working within the London HQ has proven that. For someone who has a keen interest in politics, I have been left disappointed and very conflicted as to whether the Labour Party could run this country considering the directors and senior leaders can’t motivate, manage, inspire or pay their own employees. My welcome to the party was embarrassing as I had no induction, no welcome and no handover from my team. I had to scrabble everything and anything I could find within the company folders after repeatedly asking for a copy of the handbook. The highlight of my 1st week was a fire induction and that’s really the best they could do, which in turn was reflected on what was to come. I am actually embarrassed to have worked for such a disgraceful and disastrous party with no real purpose other than winning a General Election (which is highly unlikely considering the party’s current events). The party is full of obnoxious, self-absorbed people who don’t know how to do their jobs properly. Nobody seems to be happy which in turn is reflected in the London HQ as it’s very hostile and toxic which fosters a culture of bullying which I witnessed and on occasion was subject to. Staff are meant to come together to work as one however, at the Labour Party it is very much each to your own. There is no real team ethic as colleagues are happy to throw you under the bus if it means they aren’t accountable for their own mistakes, which in my opinion is disgusting. The ego mentally combined with poor reporting lines and management means there is no accountability for deadlines being hit and poor standards. Considering the Labour Party is ‘for the many, not the few’ there is no sense of teamwork or friendships within the party. As you walk around, teams glance at you and there is a rare hello from your fellow staff. If you’re really lucky HR will welcome you with a limp handshake but that would be the 1st and last time you will see them. For a leading political party, the HR presence is weak to say the least so don’t expect issues to be resolved or to receive helpful advice just google it yourself instead! They have no accountability for their work or "lack of" work, because i'm still wondering what they do. When I left, there was a real feeling of unrest so who knows what’s next for the party. My experience wasn’t just eye opening, it was also painfully eye watering. If you’re thinking about joining, I would definitely think again…I would not recommend the party to anyone!

Good cause, poor culture

Pros

Good pay, a cause to be proud of

Cons

Culture is unacceptably small-p political. Energy is wasted on one-upping colleagues rather than collaborating in order to win.
