Pros

Competitive salary and generous pension.

Cons

During my time at Mastercard spanning 18 difficult months, I faced the most challenging phase in my lengthy career. I was part of a support team led by a manager known for bullying. The team had already witnessed two departures due to this manager's conduct. Working in such an environment took a toll on my mental well-being, plunging me into depression. Despite seeking support, I was cautioned by colleagues against reporting to HR, as they believed it wouldn't yield any help. This situation contradicted the image portrayed by Mastercard, a company that consistently emphasized its values and principles of decency. Encouraged by slogans like "acceptance matters" in the managers' email signatures and numerous messages promoting speaking up, I naively believed in their integrity. Armed with evidence and witnesses, I gathered the courage to report the bullying and discrimination to senior management and HR. Regrettably, the response I received shattered my spirit. Despite reaching out during a mental health crisis, I was left unsupported for six weeks with no check-ins. An inadequate investigation by HR, devoid of contact with essential witnesses, led me to escalate the issue further. This resulted in a new investigation, prolonging the agonizing wait for resolution. Ultimately, I was informed that the investigation concluded, but the results remained confidential, leaving me in an unresolved limbo. For the sake of my mental health, I had no choice but to resign. It became evident that HR's primary concern was my seeking a monetary settlement. However, this was far from my intentions, as evidenced by my departure without making any such requests. I'm still in touch with former colleagues who continue to endure bullying in the team. It's disheartening to witness their suffering, compounded by Mastercard's clear message through their treatment of me – anyone who speaks up faces dire consequences, thus perpetuating a culture of silence.

Pros

Free parking, if you can get a space. Some managers are amazing and have all the time in the world to help.

Cons

Working on the Vocalink part of the MC business, Certain Managers at Dunstable are bullies working to their own agenda instead of team benefit. These individuals are protected by senior directors above, HR complaints get brushed under the carpet. Rewards are given to "friends" rather than the hard workers. Managers do not follow MC guidelines and proccesses with a "I am above the policy" attitude. Managers do not comply with the Ethical training taken, when raised, it again gets ignored. Do as I say regardless of policy or you will be out the door attitude. Loyalty is not received and job swapping is blocked to spite rather than allow people to advance.

Not a Company for PoC/African Descent

Pros

Work life balance is mostly great across the organisation. They are trying to keep up with other FinTechs.

Cons

Everything in this organisation for career growth is based on who you know and if you have a powerful sponsor. This is not something that many PoC have so there are very few ways for them to grow their careers. All of the DEI awards Mastercard has accumulated is based solely on the work they have done in the United States, where they are mandated by regulations to support PoC. As there are no such mandates in the UK, there are no programmes. In fact as of 2022, there are no senior leaders of African descent in UK&I. There are Directors, VPs and 1 SVP working out of the UK office but they dont report into the UK&I management structure,
