Pros

Good management and leadership structure with great opportunities for education and learning. courses are available to increase skills and develop railway based competencies.

Cons

The people I manage are very stubborn and stuck in ineffective ways of doing things. I would go so far as to say lazy. Members of my staff are reluctant to change and feel entitled to things they shouldn't. The levels of sickness is appalling. The staff that I inherited were poorly trained and struggle to keep up with the requirements of the job. Very few staff member are appropriately educated . Lack of training from senior management exacerbated this. I was brought in as the senior local operations manager in the highlands to implement change and coordinate budget cuts, but due to union pushback this has been slow. Non management workers have too much say in how local issues are resolved.

Pros

Lots of rewards and benefits schemes Good team Interesting

Cons

It’s a good place to work but there can be too much expected from one person. Head office is so distant from what’s actually going on
