Pros

Working hours are 12 hours allowing for flexibility Easy to get promoted.

Cons

Employment structure based on trapping employees through visas rather than providing support for workers. Understaffed, Undersupported. Too liberal with restricitve practices on clients. Will avoid paying employees unless forced too re: training hours ect. Avoidant Management Unwilling to adapt to modern technologies No transperancy with staff.

Pros

Close to where I was living Care staff and nursing staff were lovely The residents Better pay than NHS

Cons

While I was working for orchard care they would ask me to dispense medications while sitting with residents who need one to one monitoring while also watching the floor and handing out meals. The nursing floor only had 2 carers to 20 off patients leaving the nursing staff to take on care staff work as they would not employ any more carers. I felt unsafe doing this while administering critical medications. They gave me no time to complete resident of the day, updating care plans and assessments. The management were useless sitting in the office and wouldnt come out to watch the floor while I did resident of the day or handed out medications. Home manager was rude and nasty, often nitpicking staff over small mistakes made due to understaffing. Heavily relied on agency carers due to staff sickness but would not induct the agency staff leaving them to flounder, would ask nursing staff to complete induction paperwork despite the lack of induction which nursing staff had no time to do due to the amount of work asked of us. No support transitioning from a traditional hospital nurse to a care home nurse. The unit manager was an administrator who worked their way up, she is a bully and has no idea what she is doing. While I was working there several staff left because of her. If she was working as a senior carer she would pile work onto me so she could do paperwork or go out for a smoke. Would frequently shout at staff on the floor in front of residents and relatives. She made the time I worked there for miserable.
