Pros

Sadly i can find nothing possitive to say about working conditions at this company.

Cons

Lack of effective management at both senior and retail store level. The company actively inhibits change and innovation. Employee morale is very low with a culture of dishonesty and cover-up amongst senior management. I'd give the Orvis HQ negative stars if that were possible. I've been working at the Orvis U.K. for a number of years now and wouldn’t recommend employment with this company to anyone. I sometimes wonder if the senior management in the U.S. are aware of the incompetence and dishonesty that occurs within the U.K. arm of this company. This company lacks the ambition to change with current retail trends and actively discourages employees from voicing their legitimate concerns regarding poor management performance. As such employee morale and confidence is at an all-time low. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS

Pros

+ Company has sound ethical ethos + Cares about minority status and listens + Good pay with careful progression ladder for those who work hard + Solid HR practices that put employees first + Great products and interesting time to work for the company

Cons

- Some old procedures that need to be modernized - Some management that do not take fast enough action on decisions - Product selection could be more cohesive

Pros

Some of the people I worked with really made it more enjoyable than it should have been. The customer base was generally good to work with compared to other businesses.

Cons

Really don't value their employees despite usual cliches about them being company's greatest asset. Bizarre employment terms which combined with changing working practices over time left people working half their hours on part time and half on zero hours terms. Zero hours rates were low - we're talking not keeping pace with NMW increases by time I left (one of the reasons I left).
