Actual job is ok, but not a fan of the company

Pros

Lots of interaction with animals if you enjoy that. Fairly easy job most of the day consists of customer service, delivery and store maintenance

Cons

You may find it difficult to work here if you really like animals as your morals may conflict. The company seems to really want to rush pet training which I didn’t like, some people can really know their stuff and others are clueless. Store targets also could be pretty unreasonable and shop floor staff always getting a hard time even if they are trying their best. You’re experience will depend a lot on your management, some are good some are shocking.

Pros

Pros? I've been thinking for a couple of minutes... hmm, still nothing.

Cons

* FLMs and managers – dodgy people who seem to live by different rules. * The fit note culture is out of control. People who are perfectly capable of doing their jobs are signed off from LLOP picking, leaving everyone else to pick up the slack, causing back injuries and damaging morale. If you complain, managers are quick to remind you that you're "just a warehouse colleague." * A clear two-tier workforce. Some people can stand around chatting to managers about their private lives, while others can't even stop for a minute to catch their breath because they're not part of the FLMs' favourites. * Many of the foreign workers lack basic respect, hygiene, common sense, and awareness of health and safety. * Dust, the smell of rotting meat, rats, mice, rodent droppings, and urine are everywhere. * The smell from the toilets is so bad that you can sometimes notice it from reception. * The company seems determined to claw back money from employees wherever it can, yet has no problem overpaying a layer of largely useless management.

Pros

Literally the only pros of this job were some of the people who I trauma bonded with.

Cons

Management was TOXIC. They never listened to their colleagues who had basically lived there for years. They didn't believe them about illnesses in pets, and they were surprised when the animals would die. You couldn't complain to HR or anyone else because they were all friends with each other. Management was mean, entitled and they bullied their staff members as much as they could. They also had multiple complaints about a member of staff being sexually abusive and bumped them up to a manegerial position. Didn't care about the pets -- I was there for a ridiculously long time, and within my last year of working there, I had never experienced so many animals dying. Vet appointments were being missed, and they were forging notes, of course they were never kind to the animals -- they wouldn't handle them properly, throw animals against cages when bitten, etc. The customers were 95% awful too, so dealing with everything else on top of that severely declined most of our mental health, which nobody cared about. They never supported their staff, favouritism surrounded the store. There are no benifits -- as much as they will tell you otherwise -- the shares are bogus, the bonuses don't exist -- you'll be lucky to get a fiver -- the pay is rubbish for the amount of knowledge and training you do, but they pay just over minimum wage, so it's disguised. There are so many things I have suppressed in my years since working for this company. The only thing I am grateful for is the deep-rooted relationships I have carried since, and understanding my workplace boundaries, because I will never put up with so much disgusting behaviour as I did back then.
