Pros

The people (at ground level) are great You learn a lot

Cons

Overtime is the norm, and unpaid for those who are UK based. Workloads are not realistic, and when people leave they are not replaced The company has been promising for 5+ years to put a Job Framework including salaries together, and this still hasn't been published. Pay disparities are very common, and management tries to forbid people from talking to each other about salaries. The company recently announced YET ANOTHER pay review postponement. The technology is incredibly poor and inefficient, and then management complains about not hitting targets. The CEO doesn't have a translation background and after 2 years, I still don't think he understands the company. I used to be proud to say I was working at SDL/RWS, but that feeling has long gone.

Pros

Being completely honest there is nothing I can say for Pros.

Cons

this is the most mind numbingly boring job I could imagine that exists. It essentially consists of typing out and copying and pasting a series of numbers into a computer all day. You are put under extreme pressure to turn out a set number of projects a day, and if you make so much as one mistake copying out a number then they’ll want you out and will monitor everything you do. Particular individuals in the management /HR team are particularly unpleasant to work with and bullied people and are extremely power crazy and orientated. If you so much as look at your phone once during the day, or if you arrive into work two minutes late, you are disciplined. There is no trust or freedom and it is a very depressing environment to work in - they also treated the younger/new members of staff like children. I wouldn’t recommend this job to anyone to be completely honest!

Pros

As every leaving presentation says “the people really make it”. Oh and they pay for everyone to drown their sorrows in alcohol twice a year.

Cons

Incredibly unprofessional. I was called into a meeting out of the blue, offered a promotion to then have it retracted two days later because I seemed “unsure”. Of course I was unsure, there was no job description or salary and I am unsure how I was expected to immediately agree to something that wasn’t even formalised. Incidentally those who did get the promotion didn’t find out their salary until their next pay check. The company will bend over backwards for clients at the expense of their employees. During an entire summer working there someone cried on the department every day from being overworked and stressed while doing insane overtime. There’s also such an uncomfortable atmosphere on the department caused by a ridiculous blame culture and air of secrecy over everything. The moment I left I realised that literally no other company or members senior of management behave in the way RWS does.
