Pros

Snyk has some of the best co-workers I've ever worked with. The salary is very good and the name looks nice on your CV.

Cons

If you're reading this then chances are you are considering a job here. The TL;DR is that if you are a junior or mid level developer looking to increase your skill set, you would be better off looking elsewhere. Aside from looking good on your CV and getting paid well you will otherwise spend the majority of your time putting out fires, working on customer support tickets, in meetings/slack or working on bonkers ideas leadership cooked up because they have no grasp on what they want to do with the company. Engineering leadership here is non-existent. They've either left or been fired and replaced with designer execs that only serve to make the IPO look more attractive (which isn't happening any time soon, if ever). Building anything here is a complete pain because the stack is such a mess and there's no clear ownership of anything. As an engineer you have no autonomy on what you work on. Each cycle you are told what you'll be doing. This in itself wouldn't be so bad if it didn't keep changing every cycle, so you end up with a bunch of half-finished features that exist but didn't get the prioritisation to be completed. You still need to support it though, which adds to the number of support tickets to deal with.

Take note of the red flags - they are real.

Pros

* mature marketing organization for the age of the business - based centrally in the US. * feels like a great test and learn environment with new ideas taken seriously and executed on. * good compensation (comes at a price!) * mostly on the whole nice people to work with and very intelligent, with the majority happy to support you where your manager cannot.

Cons

* forget everything you know about marketing and re-learn it the Snyk way. Not always a bad thing but with rapid scale, comes gaping crater holes of unknown and chaos so you must be okay with this to survive. * very chaotic and essentially non-existent onboarding into the team means you’re on your own from day one (apart from the standard company onboarding) and you will be expected to perform and deliver results fast. *if you do not have domain knowledge/experience think about if this is right for you - there’s no support during onboarding so you have to navigate new job and learning a complex domain simultaneously and fast. * sink or swim and dog eat dog, you need to find your allies quickly which goes against the “One Team” value. *Don’t show any weakness or need for support - you’ll get shown the back door swiftly. * the Snyk way means you will now live your life via slack. This is fine for most but a steep learning curve for others.

Pros

Compensation is looks good- on paper. Hire cool places for events

Cons

Transparency is very poor between decisions making and success standards. Hire like crazy and fired like crazy. Avery planning in product organisation about when to ship which features Way too many commitments to the customer to achieve something company can not fulfil in time. Therefore it results in high pressure within product and R&D Engineering can not focus on containers one day and SAST like project another day

Snyk Response

Hello, sorry to hear your difficult experience. Last week, with having to face some difficult headcount decisions, has indeed been a tough week for the company and we understand the frustration, but we believe strongly in the long-term success potential at Snyk, and our obligation to manage towards it in a fiscally responsible manner. Also appreciate your concern about a high pressure environment and quickly evolving priorities. This is, unfortunately, sometimes the nature of pivoting to address external pressures in a start-up environment, and we fully appreciate this can be challenging. If you have feedback or suggestions that you would like to share internally, please do feel free to reach out to your leadership or someone in the People team.
