Pros

Better than unemployment, worse than any other retail job. Paid monthly. Progression is fast, but it's just to replace people leaving so often.

Cons

You are expected to work through your breaks (no managers ever take them otherwise they'll fall behind). Loads of tasks to be done outside your paid hours- store painting, racking changes, coming to store way early to get everything done. Head office shut for weekend and no support. Terrible training and you are left on your own to run the store without help. On top of that you'll need to practically memorise tons of procedures, which then you'll have to re-do every couple of months because somebody decided to put a comma in new place. But if you don't, then you'll fail your audit. Audit expectations are so high, that no store is able to score 10 out of 10. If you fail the audit, then hell will unleash upon you and you'd be expected to work 70-80hrs weeks to ensure it doesn't happen again, unpaid. Constant recruitment, high levels of staff turnover. Training programme is archaic, and candidates asked to put positive reviews here on graduation. Head office is small and understaffed and not ready for expansion. Staff boots are very cheap, hurt your feet, you need to buy you own pair straight away with own money or suffer through pain. Main products sold are very cheap and terrible quality own brands, being returned in such volumes that big part of your day will be processing refunds. If you make one mistake while you do that (wrong account, wrong item returned, drop down box missed) you could fail your audit. Staff are treated as unwelcome deduction from profit line, constantly reminded that their work is rubbish and will be replaced after making the smallest mistake. No bonus scheme, no incentives, no engagement, no appreciation, no fun. Actually worth applying for and seeing for yourself how bad it is so you can enjoy your next job 100 times more!

Pros

None. This is in response to Toolstation as there is not a direct reply option. You clearly have not read what I wrote, it's just a generic response which is so insulting. I gave you 110% for four years where your senior management treated me and managers around me like rubbish under threat of our jobs, and your saying sorry it didn't work out for me? No I stood up for myself and my self worth. You need to take a good read through all these reviews, the only good ones are from current employees who have been ordered and threatened to write these, the ones from former employees are the ones telling the truth. I feel sorry for those still working there, they'll learn in time. I would work for Toolstation again in a heartbeat if they cleared out their senior management team with the exception of a few, I loved my job and it broke my heart to leave. But 90hr weeks with pay for 40hrs? I don't think so.

Cons

Please see above. Oh they also put a plan together to get rid of a manager who was on maternity leave because they didn't want to pay her, that was discussed in a meeting.

Pros

I can honestly not think of one good thing about working for toolstation other than it just about pays bills.

Cons

Poor staffing levels, always getting called on days of to come in for 3 or 4 Hours, management need training and developing in the correct way to speak to staff. Area managers are a disgrace, putting undue pressure on under paid staff with no thank you or praise for any extra effort put in. I started on 30 Hours as that was perfect for me, however I have not once done a 30 hour week since I started due to the poor running of my store. Poor recruitment, and lack of any real enthusiasm from the manager is putting a downer on every member of staff. No one is happy in this store with the way they are treated by the manager, the Rotas change daily with staff sometimes not being updated. I am looking to leave and I have not even completed my probationary period, desperately trying to find a job before this date so I don't have to work any notice as the company does not deserve it, looking forward to leaving.
