Pros

Minimal - some great people, but they've all left or are leaving in the next 6-12 months!

Cons

I am SO glad to see two other recent HONEST reviews on here speaking about the problems at TfW. It is a shocking place to work. The way myself and others were treated is unbelievable, I was lost for words at times. For a long time, I thought it was just me being made to feel how I did and that I was overacting. I felt alone, unsupported and was left with no choice but to leave or put myself through more torture. My mental health was in a dire situation and there was no genuine support from TfW, only meetings to tick a box to say they've spoken with me. There was no follow through on what they said they were going to do to support me. Empty promises constantly. I was essentially left to struggle, and struggle I did. I thought they were pushing me out purposefully and started questioning my ability, which only added to my stress and mental health issues. It's only since leaving and speaking to others that have left or been off long term, I've realised I was not the only one. I mirror the review below that talks about how speaking up at TfW will only get shut down and you'll be the "bad guy". It is very much a "put up or shut up" culture. If you raise concerns or problems, be prepared to be gas-lit and shut down, you'll probably eventually be pushed out. When I left, I spoke of my treatment and how it made me feel, surprise surprise, there was no apology or even acknowledgement of how they'd treated me. Don't bother going to HR, that department is a shambles too! It's taken a very long time, but I am now in a new job, supported, happy and I can voice ideas or concerns without being terrified of the repercussions. I have my confidence back and realise it was never down to my ability or even my problem, it was theirs.

Run by consultants

Pros

Free train travel and working from home option. Relaxed approach to projects delivery.

Cons

Run by external consultants and the internal management will listen to the consultants advice and guidance over internal TfW staff members as if they know, and want what is best for TfW. Everyone seems to have their own deal with line managers and senior management and not everyone is treated equally in terms of training and development. Very political and toxic working environment.

A mishandled and mismanaged organisation

Pros

If you look hard enough, you will find some great people trying to do good work.

Cons

Transport for Wales used to be all about values and leaving a legacy. But now? It's turned into a toxic mess. These days, if you just keep your head down, don't rock the boat, and do the bare minimum, you'll get patted on the back. But God forbid you try to do the right thing, question dodgy decisions, or put people before profits. If you do, expect to be shut out or kicked out of important meetings. It's like they've created this culture where getting back at people is the norm. And the worst part? It's coming right from the top. The big bosses are setting the tone, and it's not a good one. The whole place feels like it's running on a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. As long as you play along and don't make waves, you're golden. But the moment you start pushing for positive change or pointing out problems, you're suddenly the bad guy. It's a real shame, you know? They used to stand for something. Now it's all about keeping your nose clean and your mouth shut. The people who actually care about making a difference are the ones getting pushed to the sidelines. Meanwhile, the yes-men amd women and the bare-minimum crowd are climbing the ladder. This isn't just bad for the employees; it's bad for Wales. An organisation that's supposed to be serving the public is more interested in serving itself. It's like they've forgotten why they exist in the first place. The vision of leaving a positive mark on Wales? That's been replaced by a short-sighted focus on keeping the boat from rocking, no matter the cost.
