Pros

There are no good reasons to work for this company unless you like the idea of living in a cult.

Cons

Once you become committed to taking on a job here they believe they own you and your accommodation is at the behest of petty tyrants and gossipers who will spread stories about you in the company if you don't massage enough egos There is not much to do so many of the staff take drugs and try to sell hash through the businesses. If you don't allow them to do so you will find they submit complaints against you and you will be fired for bullying them. That's right bullying the drug dealers. I have worked all over Europe and on many different small islands and this place by far is the worst place I have ever worked. They get away with it because they are an off island and there is no police on the island only on the neighbouring St Mary's. An extremely toxic culture where drugs and sexual assault are common among the staff. It is not a safe place to be for a single female travelling alone. The only way to best describe this place is a cult which many other reviewers can attest to. Great disparity between how the 'permanent staff' are treated to the more disposable seasonal staff. This company needs to be seriously investigated by someone on the outside especially when they still don't know how one of their staff disappeared then magically appeared again dead in the sea. Do not work for this company.

Pros

Beautiful Island, free boat fair, accommodation provided, great selection of British cheese in the shop.

Cons

Moved to IOS, Tresco earlier in the year. It has all of the makings of a great life. Good work/life balance and a beautiful island. Unfortunately, it is just a really horrible place to work and be. Firstly, the the restaurant is a lie. All the food is frozen and imported (not even from Cornwall) and the customers have no idea they’re paying £28 for Knorr pasta and frozen crab. It felt disingenuous to talk to the customers about food. The seasonal staff are patronised and talked down to. The “permanent staff” have worked on the island for 1 to 5 years and are threatened by any new potential permanent staff. The island itself promotes and favours candidates for job roles based on time spent living on the island. Meaning a lot of the staff are promoted into roles without relevant experience, making the work atmosphere frosty, rude, unprofessional and badly managed. We would work “busy” lunch services which were massively and embarrassingly over staffed. 100 covers would require 10 FOH and at least 7 chefs minimum. I couldn’t believe that all of the produce from the island itself was viewed in a way that it was almost dirty. Luckily all the food fresh from the freezer was clean and plate ready. If you have worked in any good restaurants, you won’t be happy here.

Pros

Beautiful Island, made some friends, low rent, free boat travel between islands.

Cons

Extremely rude and condescending management. Very little experience, massive mood swings, very unpleasant working environment. Lots of whispering together by the bar. The restaurant is advertised as “2 rosette”. Nothing is fresh, almost everything comes from the freezer or from a box. The “seafood platter” is made up of mostly farmed river fish. The beef “ragu” is made with stock powders and liquid smoke. I spent my days opening packets and watching the clock. The whole island has a cult like feeling, seasonal staff are looked down on or totally ignored by the permanent staff. Only single mattresses on the island. If you come with your partner prepare to have back ache from the two single mattresses pushed together. Totally unambitious culture where any suggestion of improvement is met with resistance.
