Think of BPP as a stepping stone in your career at most!
Pros
>If you have an “in” and your face fits then everything about your career at BPP will be plain sailing. >You can study for free (save yourself pain -avoid online classes and attend classes in person. Online programmes are poor at BPP).
Cons
- as this is a for profit organisation they do not put students needs first, profits are always first priority. - communication with students is inconsistent from the start to the end of their studies resulting in stressful and somewhat helpless situations for staff and students. - you will never get hold of anyone you need to speak to as the vast majority of teams pick and chose when they feel like answering the phone. - timetabling and scheduling requires huge investment in order to cope with large volumes of students. More often that not students cannot access their timetable and then there isn’t a student support team who answers the phone to help with this. - the visa issuance process is manual, chaotic and compliance is questionable, particularly concerning locations of international student and those who entered the country and then do not engage. -communication across the organisation is dire and this impacts students experience. A student could ask the same question to 2 people and get very different answers. -make sure you ask when you can book annual leave. Depending on your role you may not be able to take any leave during the summer. - pay is low particularly in service teams you only need to Google vacancies at their competitors to see this - progressing into more senior positions is impossible unless you become part of the mangers clique. - if you are good friends with management you will get a pay rise, if not your pay will remain low. - overtime is expected if you say no to overtime during peak periods I.e. summer months this is frowned upon and your time will be made difficult. - in the peak periods expect to work 6 days a week maybe even 7. With overtime you could expect to work 8am - 7pm maybe even later if you log in from home. Be careful do this once and it’ll be expected forever. If you value your free time - a student facing role at this organisation probably isn’t for you. - siloed working is BPPs biggest downfall and something they struggle to overcome. They have big technological issues every single yeah from July- Oct and the poor staff work their fingers to the bone with little information of what’s actually going on. In the end BPP pray the issue is sorted and avoid getting back in touch with students - July to October expect to have a heavy workload and be surrounded by disgruntled staff. - BPP caveat all this by offering some teams bonuses for their work. But in the grand scheme of things is it worth loosing months of your life and having to take weeks off to rebuild yourself after be worn so thin for so long? - the values are great but they are rarely applied and senior leaders do not demonstrate they work by them
