Pros

Good work colleagues and that's it for the positives.

Cons

Where do I begin? The pay for the amount of stress you are put under is a joke, it is extremely poor! Management are incompetent who do not know what they are doing and have virtually no idea about the work we do and what we have to deal with in a day to day basis. There is no joined up thinking across the group of companies. Staff are not trained from day one and are just thrust in at the deep end where you are left to sink or swim. Bullying and intimidation is acceptable providing your face fits and you suck up to management like certain team leaders do and get away with murder. You are constantly bombarded with phone calls, it never hardly stops and yet you are expected to still progress the collassal and extremely excessive workload you have. A file count per fee earner of around 350 files! Getting back into pay, the other fee earners around you are paid a different rate to you (which either works in your favour, or against you) but that person will not be expected to do any more work than you I hasten to add. This is determined based on what your manager decides you should get! At what other organisation would that happen? The directors do not care about their staff it's as simple as that, they care about making money and as much of it as possible while you get shafted. Not once in the time I worked there did our own managing director engage with their staff and quite frankly they don't have a clue about what it is like on the ground and it's quite clear our mangers don't tell them, because they aren't bothered either! The firm is a sham of a law firm. They do sue their clients and take advantage of them just to make excessive amounts of money.

Pros

If your face fits what they want then you are fine if not you are wasting your time. I would advice working for a proper law firm.

Cons

Oppressive culture, you feel like you are in an abusive relationship. Bullying and harassment is acceptable at the company, attitude that you can do what you want as long as you are in with management. Opportunities not there for everyone. Extremely high staff turnover, the people who are completing training contracts are only holding their breath until they qualify so they can leave, the training contract you don't even complete proper seats, trainees are not paid for study leave and are moved around based on business need and not for their development. Too much work for the staff they have, unrealistic expectations. Extremely low salary. Unless you fit the mould of what they are looking for there is no recognition. The experience looks horrible on your cv as they have a very bad reputation. If you are a recent graduate I would stay clear. They are rouge, take advantage of their clients for money and Sue their clients, they are a poor excuse for a law firm. If there is any justice they will be investigated by the law society for their practices.

Pros

Good training, responsive with regard to desk reviews. Some staff are nice but majority in a clique. 20% off weatherspoons Byker. Free physio.

Cons

Poor system, always crashes. Expect stress, 200-250 files, unrealistic targets, client's NEVER know they contracted into a credit hire agreement and think it was a loan car. I've listened to call recordings myself from initial calls and agree it isn't clear. We are instructed to chase clients to co-operate when winns has no signed conditional fee agreement and therefore no legally binding contract. We bulk issue- i.e. There isn't the time to review files thoroughly so it's done automatically and in huge quantities. This causes exceptional street to staff and clients get frustrated due to their claims continuing for years. Expect to be told this daily by numerous clients and expect abuse over the telephone. The company makes most of its money from credit hire which is all it cares about. It is not a client customer focussed environment, more like a call centre. When we go to the toilet we have to let management know by putting a code in our phones, or if we do admin, again the same. There are many codes and what you are doing is displayed on a large plasma for all to see. Which is completely intrusive. Expect to be told to sit down and when you're going on your lunch.
