Pros

- Flexibility. As a primary carer the support provided and flexibility has been like nowhere I’ve ever worked before. Excellent and person focused - trust and autonomy to get the job done. Helps me thrive and be my authentic self - ambitious, our goal is simple…to be the best. New ideas are nurtured and encouraged. No hoop jumping.

Cons

- not always quick to deal with under performance which can de-motivate others - not all colleagues are flexible…it’s a two way thing remember!

Toxic culture with little support for growth

Pros

I worked with some great people.

Cons

A toxic environment, I did not feel like I got any real development or focus on progressing here. It's very much a contractor first type of company. So if you want to learn or progress, I wouldn't recommend working here. It's also sadly not disability friendly. I could not recommend this organisation to anyone disabled. Reasonable adjustments are not taken seriously by HR. I also found it to be a command and control, type of environment and senior management seem to think it's okay to make patronising comments to people if you dare to make a suggestion. Also absolutely no reward or thanks for going the extra mile. Just more work. If you do a good job you get given loads more work. People who don't do such a good job get given very little to do and even promoted. I think the most startling thing I noticed was that I started in a culture where I thought you were encouraged to speak up and act pre-emptively on problems. In a housing association, I consider this important because if staff can speak up, then problems aren't hidden, especially in light of some of the horrible things that have happened to customers in housing, especially around damp and mould. Most people I knew at YH felt scared to speak up for fear of being ejected by senior management. It's really is the worst kind of culture to work in.
