Pros

Good learning experience, good IT, good network, good products, reasonable benefits, ok pay, people on the whole pleasant and free fruit once a month.

Cons

Chaotic, no one knows what they're doing, last second bossy culture, if you're not in sales you're nobody. Not enough staff, zero training and cumbersome database.

Pros

Great network - good connectivity to all the key datacenters which is fundamentally what their customers want

Cons

Culture isn't for someone with a solutions selling background which is why I had to leave. it''s a transactional business which is fine for some but not for me.

I'm sorry Zayo didn't work out for you. I'm surprised you cite lack of "solutions selling background" as the reason. More than half of our bookings dollars are associated with complex solutions. Many involve combining multiple products, such as waves + dark fiber + colo, or cloud + ethernet. Often the solutions involve multiple cities and, in some cases, multiple countries. Solution-orientated account execs and sales engineers are most valued. If this was the area you were interested in, I'm surprised a match didn't occur. I agree with your operational point on network maintenance. I am proud of our project managers -- they are quite capable and decent in my opinion.

Pros

A company well run by very committed individuals; the company has fully grasped and embraced the idea that data is king in the twenty-first century; most people who work for Zayo are bright, ambitious, approachable and generally likeable

Cons

The company treats investors, customers and employees very much in that order; you will be expected to make sacrifices (knowing that even if you give your all you could be made redundant at any time if you're damaging the EBITDA number); rewards are allocated only where necessary (i.e not everyone shares in the long-term incentive plans, no regular pay reviews); in short it can be brutal!

Thanks for the post. You seem to have a lot of passion. It is unfortunate you are no longer with us. I appreciate your complements, but will focus on your constructive points. I agree -- investors, customers, and employees are all critically important. I don't see it as a hierarchy. The long term viability of a business happens when (a) a talented and motivated team of people (that is, employees) collaborate effectively, (b) customers are thrilled with the service provided by the company and (c) investors receive above-market returns. I view customers + employees + investors as a partnership -- and this is what we try to instill into Zayo's culture. We want all employees to share in Zayo ownership, and we want them to earn it through a success-based RSU program. We want to make outsized returns for our investors, but we want all employees to share in this success -- through both quarterly bonus and RSU programs. At the heart of all this are our customers -- if we are not performing for them, we cannot be successful. It is a partnership. Thanks for recognizing we are improving.
