This #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay we want to recognise the incredible talent we have at Arcadis and give kudos to our women engineers leading the next generation. People like Prof. (Dr) Anusha Shah Arcadis’ senior Director for Resilient Cities and UK Climate Adaption lead who has been confirmed as the 159th Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) President. "I am particularly proud and humbled that I will be only the third woman President in more than 200 years and the first person ever from a BAME background." “I hope that my appointment will help inspire the next generation of engineers, especially those from diverse backgrounds, and demonstrate to them that no door is closed to them and they can achieve any goal if they persevere and drive their life with the right values.” Anusha’s appointment not only demonstrates the critical role female engineers play in leading our industry, but it sends a powerful message to the next generation of girls studying science, engineering, and maths that anything is possible, and your career opportunities are limitless. #INWED23
June marks Indigenous Peoples Month in Canada, a time to reflect on the history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. Beginning in the 17th century, language, as a cornerstone of culture and community, was targeted as a primary means of suppressing Indigenous Peoples. Recognizing the importance of Indigenous languages in Canada, our scholarship with @Indspire targets the education gap by financially supporting post-secondary students studying architecture, engineering, urban planning, or Indigenous languages. The business sector has a collective responsibility. We play a critical role in respecting human rights and tackling inequality. We must provide and foster responsible environments for our people, clients, and societies we serve. This means supporting working conditions throughout our value chain, ensuring equitable practices, and driving accountability. Recognizing the inseparable link between human rights and sustainability, we know human rights is central to development, where inclusive growth and value-based governance are standard practice in the just transition. #humanrights #inequality #wbcsd #sustainability
The Sydney Metro network has reached a significant milestone with the successful completion of the first train's entire tunnel journey to Sydenham. This achievement will greatly contribute to connecting more communities throughout Sydney. Arcadis, a key contributor to the Sydney Metro project, has been actively involved since 2016, encompassing the planning, design, and construction stages. Our extensive participation spans from the North West to the City & Southwest lines, and more recently, the Western Sydney Airport and Metro West lines. Realizing an effective energy transition in cities requires a 'systems thinking' approach that brings everyone, and their interests, together. A sustainable energy plan must consider not only how the city´s interconnected systems and stakeholders could be impacted by a transition, but also incorporate them at critical stages within plans and goals. We fully support Birmingham City Council's #ExpectRespect campaign, aimed at putting an end to roadworker abuse in Birmingham. It is disheartening to learn that an alarming 465 incidents of physical and verbal abuse towards road workers have been reported in Birmingham over the past three years alone. Over the next 5 weeks, Birmingham City Council will be sharing different stories from its dedicated roadworkers. We care deeply about this cause, and we are determined to stand strongly against any kind of mistreatment towards our workers. We truly value the hard work our people do, every day, to make a positive impact in the communities they serve. Just as you wouldn't tolerate abuse in your own workplace, let us unite in our efforts to prevent such incidents from happening to them. We are excited to be part of The Curv, a 60-storey residential tower in #Vancouver, which is the most energy-efficient tower built to date. Our green solutions and "outdoor rooms" establish a connection with the interior ground floor, while the building's physical form symbolizes the shift towards environmentally conscious design. A quarter of the 501-unit tower is dedicated to social housing, and we are proud to work alongside RDH to create the world's tallest Passive House building. This project forges a positive impact on the surrounding community and promises a new beginning in low-carbon towers. Learn more: https://okt.to/niM1aA #DesigningforImpact #ImprovingQualityofLife
