Meet Ben, Operations Manager at BAE Systems "I joined BAE Systems 20 years ago on a three-year apprenticeship, following in the footsteps of my dad, who started his apprenticeship in 1976, and my uncle before him. At the time, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but the apprenticeship gave me a solid foundation to build my career. After a few years, I transferred to the support and industrialisation department as a production engineer. I enjoyed the challenge of bringing teams together and merging their work styles. A few years later, I became a production leader for legacy display products, where I led a small team and took on more responsibility. BAE Systems supported me through a difficult personal time when my son was born prematurely. They offered flexibility during that period, allowing me to focus on my family. Since then, I moved into an operations management role overseeing all Inceptor projects. I’ve grown with the company. BAE Systems values its people and creates a culture where employees enjoy coming to work. There’s a strong sense of diversity, and leadership recognizes the potential in everyone. The best advice I’ve received? Be yourself—be authentic. BAE Systems allows me to do just that." If you’re ready to grow your career with a company that values you, join BAE Systems today.

Meet Tom, Operations Team Leader, Electronic Systems. "I joined BAE Systems on the technical training scheme, straight after my BTEC Level 3 in Engineering. After six months, I was a fully-fledged test technician, specialising in flight controls for aircraft. I started on the Gulfstream jet project, before moving to a different platform. After gaining knowledge and experience, I ended up juggling three projects. As we won more business, we needed to hire new technicians, and I was promoted to a junior leadership role, which saw me train the new starters. I was then promoted to operations team leader for the Gulfstream flight controls project. The team leaders I manage are very good at delegating, which gives me more time to be hands on. This ultimately helps the team out. It’s always made a difference to me seeing my own managers getting involved and caring about what I do; I’ve brought this approach into my own management style. Early on, the company agreed to sponsor me to study BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The University of Greenwich. Its part-time study and I’ve got three years left until I get my degree. My advice to anyone considering a career at BAE Systems is to just go for it. If I didn’t apply for the job I have, I wouldn’t be on the development journey I’m currently on, so it’s worth applying for every opportunity that fits you."
