Congratulations to Ken Mbugua, a Management Trainee from BAT Kenya, who won the prestigious Silver Spear Award! The award, part of the East and Central Africa region’s recognition scheme, is presented to employees who display exemplary behaviours demonstrating our guiding principles and delivered agreed milestones to the company charter. Having taken leadership of a project and coordinating it to success, Ken said that coaching opportunities from his manager and assigned coach, in addition to comprehensive support when he needed it, were instrumental to this achievement.

Our colleagues in Switzerland have been running for a good cause! The 20km de Lausanne has been supported by the BAT Switzerland Foundation for more than a decade, and this year all money raised was donated to support the Epiceries Caritas. These mobile grocery stores provide a vital service to socially disadvantaged people living in the Canton of Vaud, often in more rural areas. The BAT Switzerland Foundation this year donated CHF 4202 to Caritas, which was raised through sponsorship of the runners and matched by the Foundation.
We are committed to improving gender diversity in senior management. As part of our strategy, we created the Women in Leadership course. It is designed to help female employees break through barriers to progression through building enhanced business and leadership skills, cultivating networks and developing greater confidence. Uniquely, participants take ownership of their development, sitting down with their line managers to discuss how they will progress. Nicola Arthur was on the very first course – see how it helped her to take her career to the next level http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vI6rK
