We joined the Woman and Work All Party Parliamentary Group this week to talk about social wellbeing, inclusivity and how we are making our workplaces work for everyone. Katy Hamid, our Employee Communications Manager, shared how we celebrate different characteristics and encourage diversity through a range of enhanced people policies, new and growing networks and support a flexible working culture that help make Barratt an employer of choice for everybody. Meet our graduates. The real people behind the ASPIRE Graduate roles share their stories within Barratt Developments Plc. Jessica Fletcher, Construction graduate, North Midlands Division. Degree: BA(Architecture), Leeds Beckett University Why did you choose house building? Choosing a career in house building is choosing to work in an industry where you can really achieve something tangible. And as a result, we get to see the changes in ourselves and the world around us- which is something that a lot of industries do not offer. Why Barratt Developments Plc? With me being a construction graduate I wanted to go to an employer which supports women in construction and to progress into senior roles, which Barratt definitely does. On Remembrance day, we want to take this time to not just honour those who fought so bravely for our country all those years ago, but to also truly acknowledge and highlight a group of heroes that we share a very special relationship with: our Armed Forces. Our partnership with them is long standing, both through our support to the RBLI and our talent initiatives. Ex-Armed Forces personnel bring many transferrable skills such as a strong sense of drive and exceptional leadership that truly brings out the best in us. Our award-winning programmes are designed with ex-Armed Forces in mind as we help them build their technical skills with onsite training every step of the way and in return they award us with their unique skillsets.

Well done to all of our colleagues who took part in our Virtual Big Barratt Hike – walking more then 1,300km in total and raising £50,000 each for @Macmillan and @Outward Bound. This builds on our partnership with the Outward Bound Trust, launched earlier this year, and a £100,000 donation to support their 1,000 days of adventure programme to help young people transition out of lockdown. Meanwhile, for Macmillan, £50,000 could fund a Macmillan Nurse for just over 1,600 hours, providing practical support to those living with cancer, or fund the charity’s Support Line Centre for 119 days. As we move towards new national measures to tackle the coronavirus, supporting our charities is more important than ever.
"It was a difficult time for us, but I think in many respects I was proud of how the company reacted... we had 5,000 face masks that we made available to the NHS, all of our defibrillators we handed over to the NHS and we collected nearly £100,000 for NHS charities." This is just a snippet from Rob Tansey's conversation with Justine Greening on her hit podcast 'Fit for Purpose'.
