Residents from over 50 of our homes took part in the annual Big Garden Birdwatch event this weekend. Many Care UK home teams also used the week as an opportunity to make their gardens a little more wildlife friendly with new feeders and nest boxes.

We’ve been leading the way in social care for decades. Here are some highlights from our story so far. 2018 We open six homes this year, including Mercia Grange in Sutton Coldfield, Pear Tree Court in Horndean, Chandler Court in Bromsgrove and Murrayside in Edinburgh. In August, six Care UK colleagues feature in Care Home Professional magazine’s top 50 Leaders in Care. Perry Manor, Cleves Place, Manor Lodge and Mildenhall Lodge achieve ‘Outstanding’ ratings from the CQC. Recognising the importance of diversity and equality among our residents and colleagues, Care UK supports London Pride. Whitby Dene, our care home in Eastcote, Middlesex, makes a host of residents’ dreams come true, including supporting one resident to meet the Pope.
The opening of Highmarket House in Banbury, Oxfordshire presented the perfect opportunity to discuss with the team the importance of dignity. Dignity in care is in the hearts, minds and actions of the team seen here with their Dignity certificates. Sally Matthews- Customer Relations Manager said “Dignity in care has always been my passion. As a Dignity Champion I believe that being treated with dignity is a basic human right, not a luxury. I believe that care must be: compassionate, person-centred, as well as efficient and effective." Resident and recruiter not something you hear every day. Oak House in Slough have invited Sheila one of the homes residents to become part of their recruitment team. Sheila went along with our Home Manager Julie to Slough shopping centre last Saturday to talk to prospective people about life at the home and discuss potential career opportunities. Not only does this give Sheila another opportunity to be active and engaged but also give people a real insight to what life is like at our homes. Edinburgh we are coming. Care UK are due to open two new brand new homes in Edinburgh. Our first of the two new builds -Lauder Lodge is located in Portobello and is due to open on the 11th December 2017. Exciting and busy times ahead for the new build and projects team.
