M&E specialist Dodd doubles profit on retrofit surge
M&E specialist Dodd doubles profit on retrofit surge Aaron Morby2 hours ago Share M&E specialist contractor Dodd Group has reported pre-tax profit almost doubled on the back of surging demand for property retrofit work. The Telford headquartered firm delivered record revenue in the year to March 2024, jumping 20% to £249m. This lifted pre-tax profit from £3.5m to £6.7m. Better trading saw operating margins improve to 2.2% from 1.5% in the prior year with interest on cash balances contributing £1.3m to the result. The family-owned contractor provides mechanical and electrical engineering services to the education, defence, justice and health sectors as well as undertaking maintenance and refurbishment for housing associations and local authorities. The year of growth saw staffing rise to 1,100, operating out of 21 bases countrywide. Thomas Mark Dodd, a director at Dodd Group, said: “The Property Services division saw considerable growth in the year, following a restructuring into 4 sub-divisions. “The Construction division has continued to secure sizeable schemes with select main contractors across all regions.” Year-end cash improved 16% to £44m.
Dodd Group Property Services was delighted to celebrate Nation Customer Service Week- we asked our employees to nominate their Customer Service Hero - and had a flood of nominations -these 3 were our overall winners! Well done to Sam, Zoe, and Dani who were awarded with certificates and some lovely shopping vouchers for all their hard work and efforts in delivering excellent customer service!
We were very proud to be recognised for our continued support to the armed forces community by being awarded 'SILVER' by the Armed Forces Covenant. The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy, and society they serve with their lives.
Whilst working on a project recently, Matt Graham (Dodd Group Mechanical Supervisor), Phil Bick (Dodd Group Electrician) & Dan McGuigan (ITC Building Contractors) noticed smoke coming from a nearby domestic property. All 3 scaled a 6ft fence to investigate and found smoke and flames coming from the kitchen area. Our heroic team entered the property, tackled the blazed, isolated power supplies and evacuated 2 children along with their mother, before calling the emergency services. Thanks to their quick thinking and courageous actions a potential tragedy was avoided. Ben Brook CFO at Leamington Fire & Rescue Head Quarters (a facility that Dodd Group maintains through its Warwickshire County Council Partnership) was made aware of their bravery and requested that he thank them personally for their actions. On Friday 16th August the team was presented with personalized "Recognition of Courageous Actions Preventing Further Escalation of a Fire" certificates.
After the start of the football season and Christmas, this is the best time of year. September is when Dodd Group welcomes its new cohort of Property Services Apprentices. It is a long day, they get overloaded with information & meet people whose names they will not remember, PPE they dont know what to do with & sit through lots of presentations, but this group were so good, so interested, engaged & interactive. We were delighted with them! As always - huge thanks to June Watson & Alan Wakeman & James Kirby for their support & input, & Jack Sims for popping in! Please let me introduce Archie, Nyall, Joe, Cole, Rory & Noah; who start their journey with us today. It was a pleasure gents - & good luck to you all.......
it's that time of year..one group of apprentices grading and a whole new cohort about to start! This young man has just completed his gas apprenticeship - and we were delighted to offer him a position on our EQUANS contract - based in Birmingham City Centre. Another 'home grown' employee! Stewart Butler was delighted to present him with his completion certificate yesterday morning and cheer him off as he started his 1st day as a qualified Gas engineer. A huge well done to Bradley Webb - congratulations Brad - - and a big thank you to Stewart, who has mentored him all the way.
